Hey guys, I have a Boss BD-2 that I am trying to troubleshoot. I have done a good bit of reading and searching and have taken the Boss apart and poked around to see if anything looked physically damaged...it really doesn't. So, here's what it's doing: The bypass works fine, guitar signal goes right through, when engaged the LED comes on but the only sound that I can get is with all the knobs cranked and it is really quiet and distorted...sort of sounds like plucking a rubberband. Could this be a similar problem to the metalzone from another thread? I have a multimeter, but I need some assistance on what numbers I should be getting to determine what part is malfunctioning. I also have the schematic which is a bit overwhelming to me.
Thanks.
Chris

Hi appstatedude
Welcome to the forum fro Australia.
Can you remember what happened to your BD-2 before it went faulty/
The more info you give us, the easier it will be to steer you in the right direction.
You never mentioned if you were testing-running this, off a battery or off a power adapter?
Always use a KNOWN GOOD battery, as a preliminary test. Check you have KNOWN GOOD cables. Test the amp is working with just a lead & a your guitar or signal generator.
Regards Dr. Bob

Hey Dr. Bob. Thanks for the reply. I don't really know what happened to this pedal, it was given to me broken by a friend of mine. To answer your other questions, I have tried it with a fresh battery and a boss power supply with the same results as well as two different amps, my peavey tube amp and a crate solid state. I have a signal test probe coming in the mail from BYOC that should arrive on Monday, so that will hopefully help with this as well. I'm new to all of this troubleshooting, but I'm learning. |
