Random question...has anyone ever seen someone take out the section of the bridge closest to the bridge pickup and then run your strings backwards through the tailpiece so they wrap around it and lay on top of it? I know someone does this, but I can't think of who it is...
Any purpose to doing this besides warming up your bridge pickup a bit???
Nice...thanks for the link. What was your thought of the sound difference? Did you think the strings had less tension on them? how much did it affect your tone?
I've been doing this for years on my Les Paul as well. I think it was from seeing on old video, think it might have been Jimmy Page.
It certainly sounds better, and the strings feel a lot lighter when bending, especially if your using 10s or 11s. The reason is the break angle over the bridge saddles is smaller. The strings themselves are still at the same tension, because the pitch and string length hasn't changed.
I might give it a go too. My only concern is it staying in tune because of the angle from the bridge to the saddle. Also, I don't want to scratch up my chrome
