Hi chrissydamage Which revision & chip version of the OD-1 do you have & love?
Regards Dr. Bob
Hi Dr Bob-
I've been doing quite a bit of research with the OD-1 recently as it happens-
What I can deduce thus far is that if it has OD-1D on the board most likely you are in for a treat :)
Currently I'm preferring a silver screw OD-1D with the uPC4558C (NEC) chip. Also the JRC4558D is very good and sounds almost identical in this board too, there is very little difference tonally.
The OD-1E is a bit more of a lottery though, there are quite a few sub versions of this board (some of the very late ones even had MIT boards) and there is a huge variance in sound, even using the same NEC/JRD chip in the OD-1E board it doesn't have the same bite and sounds quite a lot more muddy than the OD-1D.....
Having said that, really at the moment I'm not 100% sure because I've just aquired an OD-1E with the JRC4558DD chip and at the moment that is actually sounding a little bit better than the OD-1D.......
Obviously this means there must have been something wrong with my hearing at the time of testing. I have repeated the experiment several times since and my hearing is still not improving- hopefully soon it will be back to normal.....
We all know that any black screw short dash pedals never sound better than ss long dash's, right?
I'm sorry for making such a wild accusation and I promise to keep testing it until the long dash sounds better, then I'll get rid of it and pretend it never existed |
