I found a DD-5 for a more than decent price, it is sold by a guy who i've dealt with before. I read some reviews at HC and they where kinda mixed... Some give it 9 or 10, some give it 1 or 2. Now, what do you guys think of this pedal? Does it sound good? Hasn't it got too many modes?
Thanks
Joske

I like it. More interesting than the DD-3, which I consider rather bland. The 5 is a bit more fiddly to set, which may or may not be a problem, depending.

I don't know how it compares to a 6 or 7 as I've not used them. My go-to Boss delays are the RDD-20 microrack and RE-20 though.

I used one for ages.
Get the extra footswitch to tap in the tempo and it's a very good pedal. I prefered it to the DD6.

I eventually replaced my DD5 with the DD20 when it came out.

If you can get it for a decent price I say go for it. It's a great delay pedal. Just the panning and reverse modes alone make it worth it. I've known 2 people that had them so I've played with one quite a bit. I've never used a DD-6 or 7 so I can't really compare. But the 5 has enough modes to keep you busy for a while and it always sounded great to me.
Personally I would prefer the external tap tempo like the DD-5 and 7 over using the on/off switch like the DD-6.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The DD-5 sounds better than the DD-6, that is, more analogue.

You will notice this on different settings like reverse delay ect. not on the "normal" settings so much.

It cannot harm to have a handfull of Boss delays in your possession, so try it out man!!

It may be faster, but I'm fine with my DD-6 as it doesn't use too much space.

One advantage of the good old DD-3 that is always worth considering is that it is the only one (actually maybe the DD-2 is the same) where the dry signal passes through with no processing whatsoever (at least that is how I understand it). So what you get, if like me your board is otherwise all analogue, is an unadulterated main signal with the repeats added to it.

+1
you definitely need to try DD-2/old DD-3
i don't think anything that came after long chip DD-3 can beat it soundwise, but if you are more into number of functions...

I thought that most people preferred the DD-5, considering the reviews and prices?

I sold my DD-5 when I got the DD-6. Just for the warp mode.
I tested a DD-6, DD-5, DD-2, DM-3, and DM-2 back to back and preferred the combination of DM-2 and DD-6. The DD-5 sounded very similar to the DD-6. The DD-2 was a little less "digital" sounding, but I want my digital delay to sound digital and my analog to sound analog. My dad uses his DD-5 still, so I get to hear it quite often. For clear repeats it is great, but they can be overpowering if set wrong.

I did similar. Tested DM-2, DD-2, DD-6 & DD-7. Ended up with the DM-2 and DD-6 on my board I like the sound of the DD-2 a lot more than the DD-6, but the on-board Tap Tempo and warp mode are worth the sacrifice to me.

Why do you like the warp mode? I never used it. The DD-7's solution with the expression pedal use is so much better! Though it has no visible warp mode, you can define the values for delay time, feedback and effect volume, that should be controlled via the expression pedal! I hated the warp mode, because it always set the feedback rate and volume to maximum when activated. I found it useless. But I like the DD-7's way, because you can use it with almost every mode now!
