Okay, so I know we've had threads about this before but I couldn't find them...

Just wanted to say that I took the plunge and bought a PolyTune to replace my TU-12. I am so glad I did. I like the TU-12 but unfortunately it doesn't track the low B on a 5 string bass, so I needed to replace it.

The PolyTune is awesome. It makes tuning so much faster, it even has a bass poly mode which tracks all 5 strings on my bass at once!

The only issue I have with the PolyTune is that the guitar poly mode only tracks 6 string guitars... which means when using my 7 string, I have to tune E to E poly then low B seperately. No biggie... and it's still faster than a conventional non-Poly tuner.

Hi Nathu

First of all;
Thanks for stating a new thread for the PolyTune, I was just about to start one myself.

Can I ask what you paid for your PolyTune?
And was that a discounted or rec. retail price?

I haven't seen one at my local dealers.
I guess you may have imported your one?

One more question, please tell us if there are any other negative aspects to the PolyTune.
Internally is a very complex SMD-SMT, PCB & DSP that runs some code in firmware.
I can't belive that sentence was mostly abbreviations...

Hi Dr Bob,

I did import mine, although I have seen a couple of local web sites with PolyTunes...

It was USD 99 (which I think is retail price) plus postage, so it ended up costing me AUD 150 all up... which I think is pretty good for such an awesome and new product. The cheapest one I could find on an Australian site was about AUD 165. It's a good time to buy from the US because their dollar is pretty weak at the moment.

I was going to wait and see if the price would come down a bit, but having to ear tune my low B while my bandmates are making between-song-noise is not the most fun thing to do on a Sunday.

I haven't noticed any other negatives yet, but I've only owned it for 24 hours! I'll let you know if anything reveals itself... I can say though that it easily compares to the TU-3 (which is also a good tuner IMHO). It is stable, fast and accurate. I just love the poly setting though, it makes tuning so much faster.

Cheers, Natthu

I had to order one online, my local guitar shop told me the TC Electronic Rep is a complete Arse, and that they will never, ever, deal with TC Electronic again.

Hey Ollie, It's probably cheaper online anyway... I don't know what it is with reps but I had to deal with a few when I was selling cameras in London. Some of them were easily describable as a "complete arse".

just picked up one today from the local shop. Cost me $120 canadian. It`s a really slick unit. Definately worth it for fast and easy tuning ...only complaint i`ve heard so far about it was from a colour blind player saying that the red and green makes it hard to see......im not colour blind so i really dont know! Works well for me regardless

just wanted to add too, I was orignally set on buying the TU-3 because I needed to power up more pedals with a daisy chain and i love that option.

BUT...

after trying the Polytune and seeing how it well it works, I was pleasantly surprised to see an IN and OUT for 9v power!!!

good little unit

This is very good to know.

I wanted to nudge this thread to get some opinions... Now you guys have had/used PolyTune for a while how do you rate it? Reason I ask is cause I'm looking to buy a tuner tommorow and its pretty much a toss up between the PT and the TU3... I was gonna go for the TU3 due to the fact its BOSS and therefore guranteed not to die on you. Whats the build quality like on the PT? Does it come with a warranty/gurantee? Any paint scratches already?

Cheers lads!

A minor annoyance with the PolyTune: the switch makes a bit of a clicking sound through the signal path... IE it's not a very silent switch. Haven't found any other problems as such yet...

Get the PT. It's awesome. Build quality is excellent. The Poly mode more than makes up for the units bad attributes (which are just that you can't tune all 7 strings on a 7 string guitar at once with the poly mode and the switch clicks a bit... no biggies)

Having said that, the TU-3 is also a good tuner. Skugga raves about the buffer on his...
