| Hey there, I seem to be affected by the pedal addiction that a lot of people around here are. I have been buying a lot of pedals recently and I think I want at least one distortion (really not a fan of dist. pedals though, just want one unique one.) Any opinions about the MZ-2 Digital Meatlizer? I hear David Gilmour used one, but with big artists they get to use so much stuff just having one pedal wont net you their tone. So what do you guys think about the MZ-2? |

The MZ-2 is one of my favorite dist boxes. It is in the doubling mode that I really like the sound of it. I think it has the same mid boost that many of the Boss overdrives has. Some people hate it but I really like it. |

| MZ-2 is also one of my favorites, nice to have delay, chorus & distortion in one stompbox. Its awesome in stereo too. |

| I hate Pink Floyd, I hate David Gilmour. With that being said I think the MZ-2 is alright. I don't think it's fantastic by any means. But then again I am more of an overdrive person and when I use distortion I prefer the MT-2. The MZ-2 is interesting though, and as you can tell some people rather enjoy it. I think you should see if you can get some soundclips. It's really rather hard to make opinions about "the best" something as sound is preference and subjective. I own every Boss Overdrive and Distortion pedal and do plan on making a giant post reviewing each of them in detail. I just haven't gotten around to that yet. I just didnt want you getting your hopes up too high and possibly being let down by this pedal. It's not for everyone, but it seems a lot of people do like it. |

Yes I do have both the OD-1, and the OD-3, as well as the OD-2 (Japan and Taiwan) and the OD-2r.
I personally prefer the OD-3. Now with that said the OD-1 is awesome for lots of things, but since it's older and rarer I find myself not playing it nearly as much as the OD-3, the OD-3 also seems to have more range than the OD-1, but they are are quite similar in overall tone. Also the OD-1's are a little more pricey. I got my OD-3 for $50 and my OD-1 for $65. But I know that on average OD-1's go for about $100 and then you get into the business of which chip your OD-1 has and some of those go for even more. I honestly do not think you'll be disappointed with an OD-3 if you are generally satisfied with the sound of an OD-1. I do know that there are of course people that swear by their OD-1's and I thought I was one of them for a while until I really started to listen and compare pedals for tone and versatility and not just age and legend. I believe soundclips of an OD-3 are available on the Japanese Boss Website. |

I got an OD-1 for $40 although mine is beat to hell.
Regarding the MZ-2, for just distortion alone it's not really anything special. In stereo with the chorus and doubling modes you can have some fun. |

OD-1 for $40? Hah! FREE with my Fender Supersonic ( I refuse to call it a Squier as it's a strong contender for Greatest Punk Guitar). I think that deserves the Llama I logged on hoping to find opinions on the MZ2 and you guys came through for me again!
 Cheers! |
