How does $ 65 sound for an used DD-3 pedal from the 80s? It's a japanese version so I'm pretty sure it'll be the good one. It's in good working order and good cosmetic condition.
Also, Do you think it will do a nice job replacing an LPX-1 half rack for delays?
Thanks for your responses! |

Sounds like a great deal to me for MIJ.
I paid about $56 for a broken DD-2 last December, but was able to repair it, and it sounds great. My second DD-2 was about $70, and was working just fine when I got it. So it seems to me that you're right in the ballpark...

Get a look at the circuit board. It is has a large 64pin IC that is the entire width of the circuit board, grap it, it is then the same as a DD-2.
DD-2's seem to go for around $125 regularly on buy-it-nows and auction vary between 90 and 150 so $65 is a steal.

I bought my DD-3 about 2 years ago for $50 it's a MIJ one . but I have noticed that the DD-2, and early DD-3 price's are now shooting up on ebay to over $100. I have both the DD-2, and DD-3 and I wouldn't part with them ever. The sound quality isn't as good as the DD-5, or the DD-6. but that's what I love about them. |

Sound quality isn't as good? I am baffled by that one - the DD-2s and early DD-3s sound fabulous - I had taiwan DD-3 that was OK, and a DD-6 that was HORRIBLE.
Now the DD5 and DD6 have a load of extra features and way long delay, but I think that the DD-2 has a far better and organic sound to it.
The only problem is, you have to play each one - different production years produced different sounding pedals. I have had 6 DD-2s, and 2 MIJ DD-3 (one early one DD-3a) and all of them sounded different.
Ultimately, though, you hear with your ears and I hear with mine, so in the end, as long as we are happy with our gear, that's all that matters!!! |

How are you guys? Well I wanted to tell you that I finally bought the DD-3, for $ 60 bucks, with I think it's a good price. It's in good cosmetic condition, but it's missing one screw on the bottom plate... Anyone knows the size of the bottom plate screws? (The ones that are under the pedal)
I will post pics soon I promise

| What I ment was that the DD-2/DD-3's have 12 bit resolution, whereas the DD-5 has 16 bit resolution. so the sound quality by theroy is the the DD-5 should sound better and cleaner, and the DD-2/DD-3 should sound muddier and not as clean. But the DD-5, and the DD-6 are a little too harsh sounding to my ears, and i'm absolutly in love with my DD-2 and DD-3. |

I don't think the bit resolution matters much when used with guitar. Guitars are typically a mid-range instrument with fairly low bandwidth. There's virtually no high frequenzy sound so 12 bit should suffice and I would expect that to make much difference.
It doesn't mean they sound the same though. I just think that the number of bits in the DAC is the major factor.

I compared my MIJ dd3 with a new dd6 and the dd6 sounds so wrong to me. it's hard to explain but is sounded way harsh and thin.
I really like the dd3. I'm gonna try to hear a MIT dd3 to see if they are much diferent as stated before. |
