Hi hudpucker

Nice set of Chandler Tube Drivers.

I have the 19" Rack version, I have never actually held or used the Floor pedal version.
It was a gift from a very good friend, he just didn't want it any more,
no other reason given.

Do you know if there's much difference, between the two?

I know that some people swap out the valve in the Chandler Tube Driver,
with other valves in the 12A-7 series
in order of low to high gain:
12AT7 - 12AU7 - 12AX7

The 12AT7 is often used in the Fender (For Bossarea 7ernder) reverb circuit.

Regards Dr. Bob

Hi again hudpucker

I just noticed that the one on the Left is different

Is it an older design of the floor pedal?
Input - Output on the sides & the two LED's

Where the other two, have the in - outs on the front of the unit
and the labeling id a bit different as well.

What sort of prices did you pay for them ?

Regards again Dr. Bob

As a bass player, I never tried something better than my sansamp bass driver DI (first model), this little thing is an unbeatable beast: preamp+DI+OD/Dist
When I bought it 10 years ago, I found it very expensive, but when I realised the amount of things that could be achieved thanks to this little box, I considered it a bargain!!

Yep, the one on the left is an earlier version. There weren't too many of those made with the side inputs; unfortunately, it doesn't sounds as good (to my ears) as the other two since it uses a different op-amp chip (the 'good' ones use the 4558s).

I've experimented with lower gain tubes (12AT7, 12AU7) but I went back to 12AX7s every time. They are quite sensitive to the differences between individual tubes. Of the two newer ones I have an EI 12AX7 (for smooth rhythm) in one and an RCA 7025 (for ripping leads) in the other.

I bought my first one new in 1987 for I think 109 US dollars and the other two I've managed to snag for about 100 each. The prices have SKYROCKETED in the past few years though they seem to be coming down a bit as of late now that B.K himself has resumed production on a limited basis. I have yet to try one of the new ones.

Yep, Gilmour was a Chandler Tube Driver user. That is probably part of the reason they sell for so much. Some Boss pedals (CS-2, MZ-2) also benefit from a Gilmour premium. I will stick with my ADA MP-2 for tube overdrive though. I have not tried the Chandler, but with all the gain and eq settings on the MP-2 I cannot imagine it not being able to get the same sound.

My buddy had an MP-2 and though they are quite flexible and cool it's not gonna cop a lampcord Tube Driver tone.

The TD is indeed a one-trick pony but that one trick is VERY impressive.

BTW, other notable TD users are Satriani and Eric Johnson.

Well... It's hard to go past a Chandler Tube Driver. I don't own one myself but a good friend I jam with does and it's beyond awesome IMHO.

My T.C. Jauernig Gristle King (OD and Clean Boost in one) is my all time favourite. Just so transparent, gritty and raw!

Hey Dr Bob,

My friend's got the floor pedal.

I'll take a pic tonight and upload for sure!

Torrential rains - biggest downpour for a long while, I'd say... I think Hobart has the second-lowest annual rainfall for any capital city actually - which most don't realise.

Anyway...Check out:

People with row boats on one of the highways too!

Hi Stratman,

Hope your pedals didn't get wet?

i have a pretty elaborate setup. and turning on one effect might make the volume jump. so i have the limiter at the end of my chain to keep everything nice and even. it avoids lots of stopping in the middle of your jam session to tweak volume knobs. its definately a "secret weapon" type pedal. its not going to make your tone or anything. they are also getting scarcer and i recommend picking it up.

Hi StratoSphere Guys
I picked up that LM-2 that I wrote about in a post here on the Jan 7th this year, the one that was about 100 (160Km) miles from my home.

They were asking $78AU for it, But I talked them down to $66AU
I also bought another HM-2 off the same dealer. this one is in almost new condition.
Both units came as is no box no manual.

For Bossarea, I will also post this info, up in the "new pedals acquired" thread, with all the relevant serial numbers.

I haven't had a chance to try them out.

Regards Dr. Bob
