I have been a boss addict for around a year now and have 4 units (ds-1,ce-5,ge-7,dd-6) nothing special. befor that i was a digitech kinda guy...........sad i know lol.

anyway since i have a love of all things boss and now its even bigger. i want to start collecting rare and vintage boss pedals. but i realy dont know were to start. what are some units that are a "collectors item"

note that i also plan to use some of the pedals

Well there are quite a few that are rare but that also makes them expensive a couple of examples are the SG 1 SP 1 early OD 1 DC 2 DC 3 DM 2 DM 3 I have seen an OD 1 sell for $510.00 SP 1 asking $1000.00 which is ridiculous BTW. Some of these I have listed hover in the $200.00 to $400.00 range. As for me I started collecting some of the less rare first PW 2 XT 2 etc. I'll work on the big ones later

Hi Guitarfreak1387, welcome to the forum. My strategy was to get one of each type of pedal ie. compressor, OD, Distortion,EQ, Chorus, phaser, tremelo, flanger, reverb etc. Go for the low hanging fruit first. Shop on craigslist and go to the pawn shops if possible and if you see a pedal that you don't have at a good price, get it. Patience is the key. If you go seek a certian pedal you will end up paying more. I have 37 different compacts now and I can still find pedals that I don't have. BTW do you have any proof that thirteen ate seven?

I would say the most sought after are: SP-1, VB-2, SG-1, DM-2, DM-3, CE-2, DC-2, and OD-1. There is also the CE-1 which is not a compact though. There are different varieties of the OD-1 so values vary widely.

DM-3 and CE-2 are both great pedals that you will enjoy. Some of the other sought after pedals (SG-1, SP-1, VB-2) have very limited functionality. They command a high price mostly because they are rare.

ok from reading some info on this site i got a questions, whats with the big MIJ vs. MIT deal? I know that boss pedals were originaly made in japan, but some were made in both. is there a noticable differance between the two?

Ohhh... I see a lot of worms wriggling out of this can!!

Conventional wisdom has it that MIJ sound better than MIT. Certainly, they do regularly sound different. Is it because MIJ pedals have had more time to "mature", or is it because MIJ components were higher quality... In the end one has to let one's ears be the judge.

On the topic of MIJ versus MIT collecting... the real bug you might get is to collect one of every kind. For instance, take the DD-3... V1, V2A, V2B, and V3.
http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/articles/DD3.htm

I have V1, V2A, V2B, and am looking for a V3 at the "right" price. Do I need four DD-3 pedals? Absolutely not. Has the Boss collecting bug bitten me? Yeah, I'm afraid so!

Hey guitarfreak1387, welcome

If you made up your mind and really want to start collecting boss pedals and spend all your free time here on the forum I recommend the 'boss book' Alot of background information (few errors) and very nice pictures.
