Have you ever had a Boss pedal that doesn�t work?
I have had a couple where the battery clip are not working. Old batteries had leaked some oxidizing solution and corroded the solderings/cords. The pedals worked fine with adapter anyway.
Nothing else except scratchy pots.
And I guess I have had up to 100 Boss-pedals over the last 25 years... |

I have to step on my SD-1 two or three times before it activates. It's probably the switch. I haven't tried to clean it yet.
My PS-5 came with a faulty LED. The LED would switch on and off at random. Closer inspection revealed that the red plastic didn't completely cover the anode of the LED causing it to touch the casing of the box. As a result my PS-5 is probably the only one in the world with a green LED  |

| I have a later period OD1 that has the same "step on it three or four times to activate" problem. It was hardly used and was nearly new in the box when I got it last year, yet it continually fails to engage on the first try. |

I forgot the switchproblem above...
Had happen to a few of mine. Stinkfoot told me to spray a little amount of electronic cleaning spray on the switch-shaft,so that it runs down to the bottom of the switch, then move it up & down for a couple of times. It has worked fine for me. |

I very rarely see a broken down Boss pedal. The design in ingenious that way - almost all of the contact points that can be reached externally (pots, jacks, switch etc) are securely mounted to the chassis, with wires to/from them. This means that the main circuit board is almost 100% insulated from shock, regardless of how hard you stomp. This is quite different from lots of other manufacturers' pedals, where you find the stomping mechanism directly pressing down on a tiny switch on the circuit board, as well as pots and jacks soldered to the board, sticking out through holes in the box without much support at all...
The only point where a Boss pedal's circuit board has physical contact with the outside world is at the adapter jack, and not surprisingly is that one of the few things that break. The switch can obviously wear out from years of stomping, and sometimes a dose of contact cleaner does the trick. If not, it's not a very big operation to replace it.
Aside from that, the Boss pedals are pretty much bomb-proof.

| I don't think i've ever had a problem with my pedals it always the Other brand that breaks down, but not my boss pedals. i figure that at the end of world it gonna be cockroachs, and Boss pedals. |

I bough 3 DS1 in total .. all 2nd hand ...
the 1st one ... tone knob was spoilt ...
switch had abit of prob, but some cleaning spray and .. ok ...
2nd - the 1st issue DS1 from taiwan ... when they were still using wires instead of the plastic things ... i bought it from this guy that thought the pedal was dead ... soldered 1 wire which broke off ...
works perfectly ....
3rd - this one really puzzles me ... when i'm using the adaptor .. there's no problem ... but when i use a battery i cant get a signal thru it when the pedal is off ... works fine when it's on ... switch it off again, and no sound at all ... wonder why ???
especailly when dis problem doesnt occur when using adaptor |
