I will tell you what it is: It is stronger in sound and that means fuller in tone, but yes, also more noise because of it being stronger in sound.

You raise a number of very good points visserman.

But as far as the TubeScreamer series of pedals go, I believe that they have transcended into what is called:
Urban Myth

And the prices, for even, the reissued pedal, reflects that fact.

I own a couple of TS-10's in pretty good condition, They are still affordable on EvilBay & in local second hand stores.
But over time the prices of these are creeping up stedily as well.

The TS-10 has an extra buffer transistor in the output stage, & the value of a few resistors were changed.

I purchased a Digitech BAD MONKEY - about AUS$90 - US$35 t0 $40
It sounds much better (I can hear the flack already) than any of my TS-10's
It has both Treble & Bass controls, where the Screamer's only have a treble cut control.

A number of my friends have bought the Bad Monkey, & put their Screamers into storage.

While it's not my favorite pedal, I still use it when I need Screamer type crunch & overdrive.

Regards Dr, Bob

Hi Dr.Bob,

Sorry for me posting so many posts in one thread in such little time, it is one of the threads I spend the least time on, because most of it is people talking about what they bought instead of what they find about a cetain pedal or how they use them. Anyway, there is still a great deal of talk about what people like and what they do not in this thread, also felt I had to read some of it, and just poke some fun at some of the post as all of this can be pretty obsessive, but anyway....................

The Tubescreamer-issue: I feel I get great tones out of them [ I also have a 10, and a 9 and a 808] when I use an eq pedal after them, as the stock sound is sometimes too midrange or to tame. The TS10, out of all of them, sounds very HiFi, I mean clean, but great. I noticed on the CD insert of Joe Satriani's the Extremist, that there are pictures of that pedal too, may have been modded, but anyway.

You see, the whole modding thing: You can get that by using an EQ to get the pedal to sound that little bit more [whatever you like]. Of course I know, it is something extra in the signalchain, but really, that is all what the modders do to them.

It still remains a mystery to me why the TS is so overhyped, it cannot be just Stevie Ray who used that pedal. These days, not that many players seem to mention that pedal as being used as their main booster/overdrive.

I do not know about the Bad Monkey, the digitech pedal. Call me crazy, sometime ago I just fell I had to research some of those classic tones with regards to overdrives and distortions. I do like Marshall sounds, but not having them on full blast really. Over time I have discovered that the Sans boxes can help you a good deal in that way, also I have found a Marshall DRP1 box, which is great for that job too.

Okay do not get me wrong, not saying I am not really interested in any other overdrives ect. but it seems that we do have a few particular flavours of overdrives and distortions, and then there are a lot of mods and vaeriations around this theme. Over time, companies come up with new designs, because younger players may bring in new tastes, but the older favourites still seem to hold on to their popularity.

Same goes for nearly all other effects, and as you carry on on your trip through this journey, you will discover more and more of the same, but just in sligtly different variations.

Over the last few months I mangaged to get hold of a DD2, BF2 SS [which sounds exacetly the same as the black screw version], HR-2 [which I do like] a PS-2 [which does sound great to my surprise---thinking about the digital sound of the PS-3, the delay ect.] Some DOD pedals, which I think are awesome and a EH Memory Man [the Echo/Delay version of 1977] and a EH Clone Theory.

As far as the EH pedals go, really happy about their sound, and them being different. They are my first EH pedals, and I think they will do for now, since they cover most of the usable effects [been using the Memory Man every day since I bought it!!] I do like variations of themes and more and more variations, but the truth is I really LOVE playing, and that is really what I want [ and also really need] to do, and yes, the pedals inspire me to come up with great sounds or ways of playing, but at the end of the day, once you have found yourself a few good things, it may be wise to stick with that and to delve in deeper instead of lusting for anything more new or different.

The whole buying/collecting thing is all in the mind eh? We have had numerous discussions about this in the past, and the truth is: There is no real answer to it, also there is no real right or wrong, anyone does what he or she wants to do.

Overal I do found it funny and it is great to see that so many more people are in the similar boat, seeing how many are here who have duplicates of quite a few pedals.

First one may go from: "I would like to own all Boss pedals", once you are there it may go into: "Let us now get 4 DS-1'sW or something of that kind. Hey, what about writing 4 songs each day. They do not cost you anything, apart from mental energy and in the end they may earn you some money.

Enjoy yourselves, All of YOU, whatever you do

Just got my first MIJ DS-1. I say first as I'm sure I'll probably end up with at least another.

Serial # 369500 (November '83). Black screw, normal dash.

Pedal itself's in excellent condition. two small chips and about six pin-prick sized dots but no scratches and nearly mint original box/manual.

I'm off to A/B with my MIT... and jam around a bit too!

Hi StratoSphere

You got it all wrong StratoSphere, It's,
I won't buy any more, Starting Tomorrow

See, my mum once told me that tomorrow never comes.
So see, StratoSphere,
that solve all our problems ...

I've been real good, I haven't bought a pedal since.... ahh lets .. hmmm ... ahh

YESTERDAY.

See I have been good.
I totally have my GAS under control.

Or you could always get a good friend to buy it for you.
That way YOU haven't honestly bought it.

Hi Ronster
Just don't feed the family, or pay any bills, over the Xmas New years break.

See no problem, you now have lots of extra cash for your pedals.

Oh yeah --- don't buy any presents for anyone,
or better still buy everyone a pedal, that YOU really want.
Then borrow them ..

Just got a NS-2 via ebay, handy lil' pedal. When I went to the local gtar shop to get more cables, they also gave me a 10' elbow patch for free!!
browsing the pedals, they had a OD-2 for $69
doesn't help curb GAS, maybe if they have it there next payday...
