Does anyone know or have a picture of the early HM-2? The one that has 4 knobs all in the corners. Just wanting to know.

Don't think there is a Boss pedal with that knob configuration.
Are you thinking maybe Tokai TMD1 Metal Driver?

Early HM-2s look exactly like late HM-2s.
Don't think the HM-2 changed at all during its lifetime.

The Ibanez Metal pedal (blue color) had that 4 knob configuration -- looked like a TS9 deluxe but in blue.

Interesting question is why Boss have never gone with this four knob setup? Maybe the knobs are better protected in a line rather than one in each corner which could break if stepped on?!?

Just a thought...

Hmmmm... I've had 4 pedals now with bent shafts from being dropped on the knobs at the end of the row.

From a manufacturing or building perspective, it may just be easier to produce with the pots all in a line due to the PCB layout, as I could see there being possible issues putting pots in corners. I mean it may also have to do with knob preservation too. Or it may just be something as simple as there were enough pedals with knobs in corners, so this was Boss's way to have their pedals and designs stand out a bit.
