Why is the PSM-5 circuit so complicated?

I was just looking at the guts of my PSM-5 and there are a lot of components on that PCB! Two ICs, nearly a dozen transistors... I mean, isn't this pedal just a looper? Thoughts?

Thanks for asking this. I always wondered ... there's a few gurus here that will know.

All the switching is done with FETs, and the opamps are input and output buffers.

Interesting... so there's a possibility of the pedal altering your tone even in bypass mode? Maybe no more so than any other Boss pedal when it's turned off?

it probably explains the tone loss and signal noise

Yep. Not sure I'd have done it the same way.

The FET switching is OK (same as any other Boss pedal) but the opamp buffering is kinda wierd. Nearly every other Boss pedal has a FET or BJT buffer, on the input at least.

I thought opamp buffers were supposed to color the tone less than a FET buffer... like the Foxrox wah buffer, which I believe is an opamp. Thanks for the reply!
