I don't know jack about bass pedals, but my brother just took up bass and bought a DS 1 to play around with. I have a Monte Allum modded DS 1 and it rocks of course(thru an LP), but the DS 1 seems to be lame for the bass. Any suggestions on any mods out there?

bossarea forum member Stinkfoot has a DS-1 mod specifically for use with a bass:

he has a reputation for doing goood work, although I cannot comment on what this specific mod sounds like.

another avenue you might try is adding a wet/dry 'blend' pot. I had one installed on a FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz pedal, and it gives me instant Jerry Only/Misfits fuzz bass tone, without losing the low end. I'm not sure how well this would work with a DS-1, though....

Heres a link to simple mods for overdrives/distortion

the bass mod has swapping out a output cap to a larger one.
For a sd-1 bass mod, remove and jumper both c3 and r10 (allows bass through), remove the blanket sound at c6, and at d6 make it a 200pf to take out some distortion.

I have both the DS-1 and SD-1 with the Basmod by Stinkfoot. For me, they still eat to much of my low-end.
If you are going the distortion-way, I think you are better of with some sort of blend to keep your low-end.
Personally I have given up on distortion all together. I leave it for the guitarists.

But Stinkfoot is a nice guy to deal with.

maybe instead of jumpering the two caps, maybe a smaller cap then.

Stinkfoot is the reason I got the Dano Rocky Road Speaker simulator
