For all of you interested in the history of the band, the different periods, go to BBC radio 2 website and search for a documentory about the Floyd turning 40.
Tried to paste the address of the site but it did not work.
Unusual about this documentary is the interviews with ALL memeber, their points of view etc. Roger Waters one is not heard often.
For all of you who like to listen live, the next episode is next Sat. but check details on the BBC radio 2 site. |

I listened to the Gilmour one. He seems to be a bit of a hard interview. Where is the Waters one? |

Hi Bosshog,
Look for the programme about Floyd turned 40. It is a documentary in two parts, the first broadcast was last Saturday, the next one will be Sat. coming.
I know on the BBC site there is all kinds of Floyd stuff, but the programme I mend is the last one and most current and does contain the views of all members. Sorry I tried to paste and copy the proper address, but without success, so you need to search a little, again, appologies for that!! |

I found it with no problems visserman.....thanks again.... ...i knew a good bit about the floyd and their history but never knew that they had a different guitar player before sid....i still think waters for all his faults(and maybe is a control freak i don't know)is still a great artist and musician and i think his solo stuff has been unfairly slated by critics over the years..his 'amused to death' album is a masterpiece...but might have been too political for some....also the floyd in their heyday were known to refuse to speak and send some nasty surprises to journalists and critics ,who they felt had been unfairly critical of them... so i suppose it was a case of 'us and them'.... .. |

| I've got a Pickin' on Floyd CD where some guys are doing Floyd songs in bluegrass style. Its rather odd but neat nonetheless. |

Hi Franz
Yes I think many of us know about the history of the Floyd, but not often you hear the views of all members, and their views make up for a change in the history.
Controlfreaks? I think both Rogers and Gilmore are in that category, but that is not bad. They both have a vision and believe in it and stick to it. Many muscians have this, and you need some of that to get things of the ground.

Ah! Franzoni, you must be refering to 'Dub Side of the Moon' by 'Easy Star All Stars' - I LOVE it! - It's so obvious that they love the original and have studied it in immense detail. |

Thank God! A Waters vs. Gilmore debate is brewing on the board!
Every music related board has to have one.
FRANZONI - first time I have heard ATD called a masterpeice. Although anything with Jeff Beck on it deserves to have more than a few listens. I'm more of a Pros & Cons fan and I like the material better on KAOS vs ATD.
That said, IMO DG's new(ish) CD is by far the best thing either of them (or new floyd) have released in the last 10 years. A great "Zesty" pick. |

Yes i have gilmours new album on mp3 and i managed to get his live show with some of the new and old stuff live at the bbc onto mp3 last year....have you checked out www.gilmourish.com good site if you are a fan of his and his gear.... i find roger waters stuff a bit more 'cutting edge' especially the lyrics, and off course the amazing mr beck lending a hand is just the icing on the cake.... but gilmour is a big hero and influence for me..'animals' to me is really one of the floyds overlooked gems... the guitar playing and lyrics are superb.... |

I love animals. Dogs has one of his best solos.
I was in a band that played Dogs. This was the same band that played side 2 of Abby road. |

Hey do you still like Pink Floyds lyrics?? Really??
I find them very teenage orientated. I think they may appeal a lot to people searching for an identity.
I do like the sound of the Floyd, but the sound remains the same. Also whether you have a Floyd album, a Waters Solo one or a Gilmore Solo one, it is all the same, it seems they just do that sound.
I do like "Pros and Cons", not because it is so orginal, but it is like a Wall album, but with much grittier guitarwork [Clapton should do this more, this is what I love him for, and if you would not know it is him you would think it is Gilmore playing-- Clapton is so good at mimicking other people, what is his own style really!!??]
I also love "About Face";feel this is a little different from some Floyd stuff. lyrics here are perhaps more what you would expect from a grown up guy.
Really I see Waters still as an angry young man kicking against society with all its problems. Not bad, but you could do this also is a more subtle manner, and the incrowd would still get it whereas the majority would just hear a good song. |
