| I'm wondering what musical software you all use with your computers. For what ever reasons... |

I just took inventory of my "old" computer & it had 77 music related programs installed.
On my new Vista box, I'm a tad more defensive:
TC Konnekt Control (firewire interface) Korg AudioGate (1-bit 5.6Ghz recorder BWF converter) Rebirth 808 (drum sequencer) Reaper (20MB DAW, nice yet comprehensive) Cakewalk Sonar 7 Producer FruityLoops Studio 7 Syntrillium Cool Edit 2000 Studio Devil Amps (plugin) EZ Drummer (plugin) |

All my programs are rather simple - can't use stuff like Cakewalk that come with manuals the size of a Tolstoy novel.
1. Acid 5.0: for sequencing my drum samples & loops, & for editing (read: eliminating the bum notes/chords, copying & pasting the good bits)
2. Coolpro 1.2a: for recording & mixing
3. T-Racks 2.0: for mastering
I have an old version of Fruityloops, used primarily for creating moog loops that I use to arrange the song. I also have Sound Forge 7 installed, but mostly for the effects which I access through Coolpro.
While not a music program, Video Vegas is essential for making videos, which I consider part of my music.
While I'm at it, I also have an Alesis RA-100 Amp w/ Monitor One speakers.
The idea is to create decent demos at home which: a. show the band what I basically want in the song & b. sound ok as mp3s on myspace - which is how most people hear my music - & I have achieved that (some people think the recordings have a real drummer ).
Final note: all these programs are pirated or cracked. The best one was downloading the free limited version of Acid & expanding it to the full version using the key generator from the crack Vegas. |

Cubase SX for sequencing and running VST instruments.
Reason 2.5 for cool sounds.
Cooledit96 for wave-file editing - old school, but it has some REALLY useful engineering type transforms and parameters |

GarageBand 3 Logic Express 7 Cubase LE
I'm demo-ing the latest edition of Max/MSP and gave within eight minutes of trying it out...it's too much for a simple knob turner like me...
Ableton seems to be the fav among the internets, of course it'll depend what you intend to do... |

Add me to the list of Mac users.
With my little boy now walking, I don't have time to do a lot of recording...but I do find Garageband to be all I need for basic demos to bring to the band or post on our website for them to learn b/f rehearsals.
Very easy to use and fairly good gtr sounds just by plugging into the mac. |
