Doing an internet serach on mods, found Monte Allums. Does anyone know of their DS1 mods are good? I was trying to listen, however, his sound clip he seemed to be running his DS1 with some other effects pedals, which is too bad because he's making it hard to really hear the pedal. Also, I'm more rock but his sound was very bluesy.
Anyway, any suggestions on his mods would be great. |

i think his mods are as good as any of the "big name" guys. i read alot of reviews on pedal mods and he has a great rep for having good mods etc.
i would not be afraid of a mod from him. |

Hi Von...
I have. Not sure if it's my ears, the recording or what, but when I listened between stock and mod, all I heard was a volume increase, I was unable to really notice a difference in the actual tone or character of the pedal.

Amen to that...
Which is why this is so difficult. Lots to choose from but, how do you know what you're hearing over the internet is a good indication or not. |

| Hey, I'm a newbie to this forum. I have done both the ds-1 and the sd-1 mod from Monte Allums. I have no complaints. Both mods really brought the stock pedals to life. Especially the sd-1. I did the 808 mod. You can't go wrong with his. Just my opinion. |

If you want to be objective with how good a mod is, you really need to have two pedals, the modded and the original. Otherwise, it's pointless in my view.
I recently bought a new SD-1, while my first SD-1 has the 5 Star Ge Keeley mod. When I did the A/B comparison, I was very surprised how marginal the difference is. Previously, I thought the Keeley mod was a huge improvement over the stock pedal.
With mods it seems to be more of a psychological effect, especially if DIY is involved that gives you a sense of achievement. |

| I have a monte allums ds-1 with the rectifier tri-gain plus mod that I performed myself. I really really love it after the mod, it sounds fantastic. The 3-way switch is great for choosing a tone. When you switch to just the LED's, the sound is so tube like you feel like you can chew it. In regular mode, it has a very rectifier-like tone to it. |

| I agree with cctsim. And that is what I did. I had bought one new and then found one used to mod. Which ever sounded the best i kept. Or it helps to have friends with the pedals you can borrow to compare. |
