Hi salvatruco
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
When you had it apart, did you manage to take any photos of the PCB & insides?
Regards Dr. Bob

hello ssanyee,
I just want to get better mids without using a eq. I personally found the mids to thin, I got this pedal for christmas and I haven't played it too much.... I think one of my problems is that i have been modifing other pedals ( DS-1, SD-1 and Mt-2) and now i have specific ideas or should i say specific sounds out a pedal i like.
thanks |

Hi guys,
I just pick up my ML-2 today, checked by 10 minutes with guitar and now in disassembled it is front of me! I have bad news and due to them I am very disappointed: - PWB double side reflow (it is not so big problem but the mod is not so easy in that case) - IC8 is a big, 144 legs ( I guess) DSP - Also this PWB can be used for FDR-1 (depends on some part and software, I think (similar integration as in case of PWB for PH-3 <-> OC-3).
Why I am really sad because of in overdrive/distortion world I have never seen such a digital circuit solutions in a single stompbox
I am really disappointed and flustrated buying this digital "simulator" against many good (really good) analog sounds...

However, I think the sound itself quite good from it (somehow similar as MT-2 for me) and the mids are well balanced for me but I am worry guys that here is the end of analog world...
cheers |

Here here! (or is that "hear, hear"?)
If I wanted DSP simulated sounds I'd switch to my POD2.
VIVA ANALOGUE!! DEATH TO DSP!!
Old-school Boss and tube amps ROCK!!

Hi ssanyee, DeFrag & guys
If you are going to attempt any mods, remember that these new pedals are RoHS compliant, and use Lead Free solder, & components rated for the slightly higher temperatures, required for Lead Free solders.
Just my 2 cents worth.
ssanyee, like DeFrag said "Great pictures". I can't believe that the lighting is from the flash without the washout.
ssanyee, do you take these with a small tripod, or by hand?
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hello Dr. Bob, DeFrag, Laurie,
Yeah, thanks the good words! About my pictures there are some facts: - Use 'MACRO' function (wihtin 30-40 cm it is needed) - All pictures what I submitted was done only with built in flash(!) - Becasue I am not using any tripod to avoid any handshake and becuase of it some ghost effect I normally need to consumpt 5-6 beers before taking picture
The camera is very simple: Sony Cybershot DSC-W55 but I gusee I could take good pictures with others as well :-)
If you check again my first posted picture on its PWB's right-top side you can see the "or used mark" for ML-2 or FDR-1 - of course with a right place inserted jumper.
About Lead Free soldering, when BOSS has started to use this technology? In my company we were just start to use it since 2-2.5 years, I am intrested in with BOSS!
About ML-2, so I am really disappointed about the circuit but (without schematic knowledge) I hope that the really distortion stage is still analog and perhaps only the equalization - and perhaps the noise reduction? - is made by DSP... However, it has a really good sound for me but about analog - digital fighting I am definitely on the analog side !
cheers
PS: if you are really satisfied with my pictures quality let me submit pictures as much as possible about my 67pcs of BOSS pedals to the actual threads - if Bossarea can accept :-) |
