here's a different pic

I do think this is one track - but then again... I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I'M DOING - hehe

the green and the yellow start from the same end of the desoldered resistor and simply go to the next solder point in each direction

OK - that angle looks better.

When you say it doesnt work at all, what happens? You hit the switch and it doesn't turn on/off?

well it sounds like it switches to a place inbetween if that makes sense

sometimes it works okay (still plopping though)

sometimes it simply doesn't switch and goes dead for a second or two

sometimes it switches back to the off state

and sometimes it sounds like the clean and the overdriven signal come out at the same time

OK... that is all consistent with a failure of the flip-flop.

Like Dr. Bob said... I wish you were closer, we could put this on the scope and have it diagnosed and fixed in less than an hour!

scope is short for oscilloscope - a device to display electrical current as a waveform (if I understand it correctly)

So Mully sent me his OD-1 to repair and here is what I found.

Take a look at D9 in the attached pic. It is around the wrong way!! This is a factory fault... the solder on D9 was pristine (see the red circle on the second pic for D9, compared to the green circle which is a joint I redid when i was fault-finding). The pedal has been like this since it was built!

So it's fixed, no more 'plop'. On it's way back to Mully today.

Hi Laurie & Guys

Execellent observational & detective work Laurie.
I'll bet even money MullyFX is more pleased that you are.

You deserve a nice weekend away with Mrs Laurie.
Somewhere pleasant, by the ocean perhaps...

Regards Dr. Bob

Hehe, Laurie.. prepare for the barrage of pedals to be repaired coming your way! That's great you did that for ol' Mully. Cheers bro!

Thanks guys! There is a pic on page 1 of this thread where it is kinda obvious if you know what you are looking for.

One more observation - it looks like there has been a lot of "poking around" done on the board over the years. I'm guessing the pedal has been through a string of owners who couldn't figure out the plop and sold it on. I think it might explain the pristine condition. Of course, Mully may have had it since new (i never asked him!)

Hi MullyFX

Good to hear you have you son back home.

I heard from Laurie that you were having a little headache with Customs.
And how they wanted to charge you import duty, thinking you got it off evilBay.

What finally convinced the Customs clerk to release it to you?

Regards Dr. Bob
