| I haven't done it in years(nowadays I just work the master volume on the guitar), but I used to use a GE-7 EQ pedal with great results. I kept the overall level at the center detente(sp), but I would nudge all the sliders up just a fraction off the center...makes for a thicker sound, either playing clean or overdriven. |

For years, I used a GE-7 as a boost, driving a Marshall. It works well into a crunchy, moderately overdriven amp, where it gives a combination of mild volume boost and added overdrive. The GE-7 also has the advantage of providing control over EQ - I used a heavy mid boost.
I found the clean boost worked less well with a clean amp. It gave too much volume increase before adding overdrive.
I've since switched to an SD-1 for lead boost, because it can be dialed in with more overdrive for clean amps (i.e Fender in church) or dirty amps (i.e. my DIY Marshall 18 Watter). However, I had to mod my SD-1 to take the blanket off - open up the highs and lows, making it a bit clearer.
Next step - I just got an Xotic BB Preamp. I tried a friend's and it slayed my SD-1, so I got one of my own. |

| i use my ge-10 to boost the mids and the overall volume or sometimes i use it with a footswitch as a lead/solo boost. it works great for either. also have a mxr blue 6 band eq, that does a good job too. |
