For a long time I've planned to make a box for my SP-1. It's at least 2 years ago I bought a large sheet of cardboard but I never got round to start making the box. Yesterday I finally started the job.

I unfolded a box and traced the contours with a pencil. Then I cut it out with a pair of scissors. Here's the bottom part

I did the same thing with the lid and folded them like the original.

I created the artwork in Corel Draw. I first tried to use the SP-1 and Spectrum texts from the manual available from rolandus.com but the resolution was a bit low so it didn't look right on the printout. I ended up putting the SP-1 pedal under the scanner to get a better image.

I glued the artwork on to the box and here's the finished result.

It won't fool anyone and I should have used thicker cardboard for the bottom part of the box but I'm happy with the result. I got another sheet of card so I might just make a box for the VB-2 as well.

Two of the hardest things to find eh...? Not pedals, but the boxes for the VB-2 and SP-1

That is realy cool, bossarea!

How you get the spred lay out of bottom part?
Whats are the dimensions of it? Or you just fold out an original box and copied what you could see?

Wonderful, indeed!

cheers

Brilliant bossarea - you could market DIY kits to do this - I'd certainly buy one for my PH-1r.

That's exactly what I did.

As for going into business. I spent two evenings creating the box so if I sold it for £10 ($20), it would net me an hourly pay of around £1.20. Subtract the price of cardboard and printer ink and I don't think I'll start my own box factory anytime soon.

£1.20 per hour - become a nice business...

Nice work Bossarea!!! I can already sense bandwith on the site decreasing as requests for SG-1, DC-2 & 3, VB-2 & PQ-4 boxes flood the forum. Be careful, sharing skills you have, it generally comes back to haunt you. Again, very nice work.

JUST FOR DR. BOB

You are Borge of Cardbordus, we are prepared to be ass-laminated.

The one thing that gives it away as a fake is it looks way too clean and new. On the rare occasion I have seen an SP-1 box it is always beat to hell and barely holding itself together. Now you need to work on a relic version.

BTW, I already posted in Laurie's looking for boxes thread claiming first rights to anyone selling a real SP-1 box. I already have original boxes for a VB-2, DM-2, DM-3, RV-2 and two DC-2s. I don't really look for pedals anymore. I just collect boxes now.

Good point Big Boss Man. Maybe throw it in the dryer or a rock-tumbler for a few minutes.
