| The on/off(normal/effect) light on my big old CE-1 has gone out. Is it hard to get a replacement and then install it? |

Guess the leds of the 70's weren't as robust as today's leds. I don't have a CE-1, wish I did tho. I couldn't find a pic of the bottom plate off, only a DB-5. The led is an easy fix, and chances are the led is attached to a seperate pcb, or just plugged in to the chassis and hard wired to the board. Found the specs on the orig. led if it helps.
Part Number = SLP24B Manufacturer Name = Various Description = Dome-Style LED Lamp Package Style (Basic) = Flanged Color = Red Lens Type = Diffused Peak Wavelength (m) = 700n Iv Min.(cd) Luminous Intensity = 600u V(F) Max.(V) Forward Voltage = 1.9 @I(F) (A) (Test Condition) = 5.0m I(F) Max. (A) Forward Current = 30m Overall Height (mm) = 4.4 Lens Diameter Nom.(mm) = 4.0 Lead Stand-off Clearance(mm) = 0.0 Package = LED-2b |

Hi ChristoMephisto, Pedalhead & guys
Christo I think you're trying to say, is that it's a run of the mill, standard RED 5mm LED.
I guess I would try to check it with the diode setting on a DVM (multimeter) & see if it's still working, maybe it has gone open circuit.
Other possibilities: The wire-s connecting the LED have broken off. The current limiting resistor has gone high in value or open circuit. Maybe the tracks, that go to the LED on the PCB are cracked. Bad or cold solder joints.
A quick visual inspection will confirm, or dismiss all of the above.
LED's don't fail often, unless subjected to Over Voltage - Over Current or Over heated, when soldering.

Yeah, I was a little surprised you said a led blew, i always thought those thing (if used properly) last forever like cockroaches and twinkies. Did a google, and some have 10-100 thousand hour lifespan.
The specs say is 4mm dia. led which i though was odd. Go with Dr.Bob's suggestion and check the neighbouring circutry. Could be something that leads to the led, but has no effect soundwise.
Do you have any pics of the inside for others to appreiciate and enjoy? |

Hi Guys The spec's say 4mm LENS, and LED's are usually tapered, smaller & the lens & larger at the base.
Good Point Christo, a couple of pic's of the insides of the offending pedal would be great!
I might have missed something, but does the pedal still function normally, & it's just, that the LED is not working?
Regards Dr. Bob

Wow look at all that access to the led held in with a mounting plate. Is the main pcb big, or is there a lot of wasted space in the ce-1.
After you remove the plate, try a LED to see which fits. Most likely a 3.5mm will do the job. If it looks good, run with it I've seen the 4mm leds on the net, but seemed obscure or had flat tops.
hope this helps

Responding to the person with the LED in his/her CE1 chorus. I have the schematics for this unit ,got them because I had similar problem with mine. The number for the LED is SLP-24B made by Sanyo. I found lots of places that list the bulb but none that will sell in small quantites.. By the way the schematics can be found on the internet by googling, that's how I found them. Was not aware of the things mentioned to check for reasons why it is not illuminating any longer. I bought mine new in the mid seventies and use it regularly everytime I plug in. Roland made some really great gear in those days. I also have the RE-201 space echo which by the way still works after I had some maintennance done to it a few years ago. |

During the last year I have replaced two (2) LEDs that have failed. One was an old LED that just died, the other was an infantile failure after about 2 hours.
It could simply be a failed LED....... (sometimes a cigar is just a cigar )

Hi Is anybody able to find me the led for my black label CE-2? I believe the correct part is Sanyo SLP-24b. I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Garry gnbass@aol.com

Any standard 3mm LED will work on your CE-2 |
