Hello Guys,
I have been reading about the Boss DR 880. I am from Bangalore, India. I have always fancied and fantasized having a drum machine. I just play basic guitar rhythms in church. The challenge since the last 10 years has always been to get a accompaniment player (Drums, Bass or Keys). I just stumbled across this device and have been reading about it and also the manual. I have asked my sis to purchase it in the US. Should be getting this baby in about 3 weeks from now.
I am sure I will need a lot of support and guidance. Looking forward for any all support from here.

reach you won't be dissapointed with the 880, it's great. Drum and Bass sounds are really good. I let a friend borrow mine and man do I miss it, I'm so used to it being there. When you do get it let us know how you like it. Any questions, I'm sure one of us will be able to help.

Team / comrades / fellowmen,
Since the last time, blogged on this forum, I was terribly disappointed with the Boss DR 880. But it all changed in the last couple of days. I was working to create some songs for a church program and I uncoveres the best and the coolest features. I was able to create an entire song sequence from just one pattern in about 45 minutes and that was like COOOL. My impression of this device has changed. I love it. I am lovin it.....!!

Anyway, it is a one measure pattern with constant double bass, sporadic ride cymbal and a couple snare hits.

I would like to get away from the "pitter-patter" bass drum sound and get something with more balls, like an Eric Carr/John Bonham type sound. I was born and raised on the Alesis SR 16 and do like some it's bass drum and snare sounds, although they do go over the top at times.

I belive the kit I am using is Power 1. That seems to be my favorite kit so far.

Maybe it's just me, but I find that when using the same kit for different presets, the tone of the bass drum and snare seem to differ from preset to preset. It becomes more obvious in the context of a song. There must be some deeper editing that I have yet to figure out.

Hey Nibbles, I would suggest that you check out the TSC Settings. I had run into something like that when I copied the preset to a user region. Let me know if that helped.

Hey Reach, have you tried what Nibbles said to do? I think hes on the right track. Look at the manual pgs 151-159 it shows you what the different kits are, maybe that will help. If you do get the sound your lookin' for please let us hear a sound clip, there are alot of kool kits in the 880.

I have "beefed up" both kick drum and the bass with the pan controls available in the presets, saved them into user presets and the connected the Kick to L, Snare to R and Bass to one of the other two outputs, then applied all the necessary sound fx with the FOH just as you would the real drums and bass. This works particularly well if you are recording and want to separate all the instruments. In a FOH scenario it allows you to get that kick arse bass sound also. The connectivity of this piece of equipment is awesome.

That's some great information! I wasn't aware you could separate them out like that. I'll have to try it.

I've been running everything through the master outs, then I assign two other outs for the guitar amp simulations. That's my backup plan if my guitar amp dies on stage.

So far I've got 16 songs programmed and have used the DR880 for 8 live gigs over the past year. I plan to do some recording this fall and post some tunes on myspace after I get them mastered.
