Hello all,

I'm new here, I am seeking for some help. I got a 2nd hand CE-3 which distorts on the high dynamics. I tried some of my own basses and especially the ones with higher output make it distort. If I play it soft there is no problem. I used an ACA adapter or one of the power outs of the PSM-5 , with same result. I haven't tried with a battery yet.

Have any of you faced a similar problem?

Thanks in advance.

Miguel

Hi Miguel and welcome!

Try a battery first to make sure the distortion is still there.

What sometimes happens is that someone "adjusts" the trim pot in these to try to get more chorus, but what it does is move the operating point.

If the operating point is moved too far, the pedal will distort with high signal level.

Unfortunately... you need a scope to reset it. These are my notes on doing it:

Thank you very much, Laurie. In fact I work in electronics and I will try to fix the battery in put and take a look at the signals as you said, I have the material needed!

It's done, Laurie! Works great!

Took me a while to adjust the pot cause at this point the effect is applied and the wave isn't exactly still. Anyway I made a fair approximation and it was enough for the distortion to go away.

I don't know really if I was measuring the emitter or the collector but the way the transistor is mounted, the signal is very similar (for those who are into electronics this isn't so much of a news...)

The effect at this electrical point is present - even with the switch off the wave keeps "chorusing" on the scope(i guess you can tell that from the schematic but I wasn't looking at it).

btw "The unit with serial number 568900 was produced July 1985"

I will get another CE-3 and... a CE-2B (My first ever Boss Pedal that has been stolen ages ago)

Thank you very much Laurie.

Miguel
