I'm thinking of selling my Marshall shredmaster and picking up one of these to replace it. I want a crunchy distortion (not overdrive) and this thing looks really versatile. Any one tried it?

Nowp, but I've seen a lot of good reviews about them. |

Never used any of their gear but the original pedals are legendary especially the delay partly due to it's use by QOTSA and i think the Foo Fighters...i think Dunlop have bought the original company out and have started trading with the name again...i would imagine the Way Huge stuff is fairly expensive ... |

About 120-160 new depending where you look. But on a good day Marshall Shredmaster can fetch 120-130 so I'm thinking of doing that |

Hungry? Check out they're other pedals.

I'm not big on their fuzz & I'm a Vegitarian, so I can't buy the Pork Loin! Just kidding, but I do really like the Fat Sandwich. |

That may be something for me, one of my bands is actually called "Pigs on a mission". |

Hi Ollie,
Bought a Fat Sandwich today (129 from my local store). First impression is that it's a bit twitchy to set up right, but after a bit of experimentation - it's starting to sound thick and rich with both humbuckers & single coils.
I'll play some more and report back. This thing is certainly much dirtier than an overdrive - we are into distortion and even fuzz territory here. Responsive in a good way to the guitar vol control. |

Yeah I wanted some natural dist, rather than the heavy lead dist from my blackstar I was after some thick crunchy tones, warm with a lot of presence. Would appreciate any feedback from this as I'm very interested in picking one up (selling my shredmaster for it)

| If your looking for a natural distortion give the Satchurator a try. This is my favorite distortion for anything from blues to hard rock, doesn't quite cut metal rhythm but is perfect for all lead sounds. |

It will depend on your amp / guitar combo, as always, and these are just my immediate impressions with the pedal. Nevertheless, here's what I used and what I thought about the Fat Sandwich.
I wasnt able to run the amp at gig volume, so this is based on bedroom sound levels. The controls on the pedal were all at 12 oclock for these tests. None of the internal trim pots were touched and they remained at their factory settings.
PRS CU22 into Marshall JVM 410 combo - clean channel
Not a natural distortion to my ears & a very noticeable processed sound I guess its all in the name harmonic saturator! Into the clean channel, I felt it partially drowned my tone and whilst I could still use it, it wouldnt be my first choice for a distortion. It was good for digging in and getting pinched harmonics as you would expect.
PRS CU22 into Marshall JVM 410 combo - crunch channel
With more drive on the amp this is where this thing came alive. I guess the natural distortion of the amp starts to take over and the pedal simply makes it sound richer like when youve been running a valve amp pumped up for a couple of hours. I liked this but if you bring too much distortion on with the pedal it descended into a less usable mush. Responded really well to the guitar volume took it right down to 1 or 2 and it really sounded useful right the way down a good spectrum of sounds from gutsy overdrive through to sustaining distortion was possible. This must have been good as I kept playing on this setting for way too long
In summary
I would use this pedal probably more for recording than live work, to run a high wattage combo (like the JVM 401c) at lower volume to get that really saturated valve sound. I do like this pedal and I probably need to play around with it a lot more before I really understand what it can do. I did mess around with the Presence control does what it says on the tin and is pretty useful but the Resonance control less so some impact on the low end but not much I think that would have more impact if I had been able to crank up the volume. The tone control is useful a good range and you can really hear the difference piercing on full treble though!
Hope this helps Ollie.
