I have the perfect BD-2 - HIGHLY modded. I got it on ebay - all stock - $35.00. Same with a CS-3 - ebay - $38.00 all stock but now modded to Hades and back.

The mods were the Monte Allums H2O mod, replaced the ceramic caps and resistors in the power and switching portions with metal-film resistors and mica caps, replaced all other caps with either metal film or tantalum (same values), replaced a couple of the op-amps with 'quieter' ones.

On the CS-3 - the Allums Opto-Mod, replaced two ICs with different/quieter inline ones and the ceramic caps with mica. I also replaced some of the resistors in the signal/power pathways with metal-film (same values).

The results were astonishing. Both are whisper quiet - even when both are engaged and the gain at 7 on the BD-2, sustain at 8 on the CS-3.

This led me to try changing a few things in a DS-1 - starting with the ceramic caps. BIG difference in noise. An IC swap to a quieter version was it. On an SD-1 - only the Mica caps...again a lot quieter.

Just my 2-cents on a fairly inexpensive change to remove some hiss.

Cracked both pedals open - here are some of the components changed:

CS3 - IC 1 and IC 2 are now both 4559L
R20, R21, R37, R38 same values but metal film resistors
C11, C12, C19, C20 same values but now mica caps
All poly caps replaced with metal
All electrolytics replaced with tantalum
Allums CS3 Opto mod added

BD2 - IC1 now 4559L
C20, C21, C23, C25, C27 same values but now mica caps
D8, D10 replaced with mini red high output LEDs
All poly caps replaced with metal
All electrolytics replaced with tantalum
Allums BD2 H2O mod added

I believe that the mica caps are the definite "it" for reducing noise.

Monte Allums mods - love them or hate them - they add a nice little extra to wake up these pedals. I did the mods and used the pedals for quite a while before swapping the other components.

Love both and they are permanently attached to my board.

Where did you find the 4559L? is that just a inline version of the 4558?

I found the 4559L at Mouser Electronics - it is very similar to the 4558 but runs a little quieter.
