I've just bought a black label CE-3 pedal. The condition is amazingly new. Out of my curiosity, I checked the serial number throught serial number decoder on this site. The result was odd. According to the serial decoder, it says that the pedal was made in January 1984, which contradicts with the information they provide in the info of CE-3 (They say that green label was introduced in 1984). I have talked to several Boss experts about this and they said that there are 2 posibilities
1. Since it was made in the transition year (very early of the transition year - Jan '84), the black label might still be used (only several months) before it changed to green.
2. The back plate was changed.
But most of the them said that it is more likely to be the "posibility 1".
My question is does any body know exactly when (which month of 1984) the green label was first used???
Is it possible to have black label in early '84 (Jan)??
Your black label CE-3 is most likely completely original. When CE-3 production started October 82, it was shipped with the black label. The label was replaced with the green label around February 1984 so yours is probably one of the last black label CE-3s produced.
My records till now show that the latest black label CE-3 I've seen is 377500 (Dec-83) and the earliest Green label is 418800 (April-84). I've recorded green label CE-2s from February-84 and a black label BF-2 from Jan-84 so it's natural to assume that the green label was introduced February that year.
What is the serial number of your CE-3? I'd like to record it in my serial number archive so I can narrow the gap between black and green labels a little.
Hi Mr. Webmaster, thank you very much for the reply. I was darn worried. Your reply was a great relieve hahahaha.... thought I got ripped off. Yeah..(for your information) the serial number was 381800. Hope that helps as the additional information to your database.
PS. This forum is the best!!! Keep on with the work
