Hi ChristoMephisto Thanks for the links.
I have seen all of those before, but I'm sure they will be very informative & useful to the other forum members.

thread revival!!!
I was gonna post a thread but I thought I'd search for some threads on modding a SD-1.
I just got banged up MIJ SD-1 I want to mod. I had found the mod that Dr. Bob posted a few days ago. A cool mod but I want more gain, any thoughts? |

Hi fancy pants & guys
If it's a MIJ SD-1, I wouldn't be modding it , for it's collectibility alone.
But if you need more Gain, try using 2 pedals Like a DS-1 into the SD-1 or the SD-1 into a DS-1. Or what ever other dirt pedals that you have. Lots of guys here have been experimenting with 2 pedals. Try searching of the old threads. And if you can, post up some pics of your SD-1 (MIJ)

You can also place a compressor or eq in front of for a boost |

| From what I can tell, the MIJ is just like the newer - If that first link you provided or the easy mod - Ts808 is a newer SD-1, theres nothing different. |

The only real difference in the MIT and MIJ SD1s are the makers of the. capacitors. Those green ones vs the silver ones. The service manuals show them being built with uPC4558C opamps, but most I've seem have the JRC4558DD chips. Tho its never been analyzed. I got one from '83 and it has the DD chip.
The TS808 and the SD-1 came out roughly the same time, Analogman quotes them being from the late 70's, late as 1980. Maybe they cloned the OD-1 with a tone knob, and gave it bass These is a big difference between the two, more than the clipping diodes

Hey Dr. B
It sounds pretty nice. It's hard for me to tell a pedal at bedroom levels, I'm going to my practice space for band practice tomorrow so I'll know then.
It sounds a lot punchier, transparent. I'm hoping another chip will give it some extra grit.
Sounds way better than the stock. I can always mod it back to original specs |

The 5 star mod sounded pretty good. Liked how the Ge diode smoothed off the clipping. Since the SD-1 has plenty of gain already, see if you like it before doing the 2x Gain section. Being the C3/R6 network. Raising R2 helps impedance if you have humbuckers |
