So I have a Boss GE-7 that someone gave me, it’s been lying around my place for a few years - never used it.
I plugged it in the other day and it's pretty quiet.
I don't really need the EQ function, but I was thinking of relying less on my bi-comp for a squishy boost and maybe using the GE-7 for a clean boost.
Is anyone using the Boss GE-7 as a clean booster? |

the problem of using GE-7 as bosster clean is that same putting the frequencies in flat is not 100% flat... the best bosster clean is MXR MICROAMP... |

| i run one as a clean boost for solo's and prefer it over my MXR Micro Amp and my BBE Boota Grande...I place it after my delays in the fx loop...in my experience the Micro amp was better in front of the amp...when placed in the loop it was too gritty for my taste...but if you're placing it in front of your amp...then I defer to the man above...the Micro Amp is the bees knees |

I used one as a booster for several years. If I remember correctly it went in my chain after overdrive and before modulation effects...just the way I liked it. I set my "boost" sound very simply; all I did was barely nudge each EQ fader up slightly above the center detente point, all in a straight line(no smile, no frown), and I left the level at the detente point. This gave me a slight boost without really changing my tone at all. Worked great for a long time. But at that time I was on the road and using a bigger setup. These days however my GE-7 is in its box in a cabinet in my music room. For gigs these days I use a smaller board(no GE-7) and I simply use the volume on my guitar. |

I got a used GE-7, and it just sounded hissy on certain settings. I did the Monte Allums GE-7 Plus mod, and it's perfectly silent now on all settings. With everything at the detente in the middle, I can switch it on and off and hear NO difference.
Then, I picked up an old Arion Equalizer for $10, and it's indistinguishable from the modded GE-7. So you could say the $30 Monte Allums mod turned my $50 pedal into a $10 pedal. :D |
