I'm planning to add a picture gallery page for each compact pedal. I've written the page already but I'm lousy photographer so I need your help to get some good pictures.
Here's what the page will look like. Feel free to click around and please tell me if it crashes - I haven't tested it much yet.

Each "set" will contain 6 pictures. I would like to have a set of pictures of every pedal and for every variant of the pedal including label differences, silver/black screw, different DC socket etc. For some pedals this could mean 7 or 8 sets while for some there will only be one.
Preferably the pictures should show every part of the pedal and a picture of the box would be great too. The pictures should be about 800x600 pixels and it would be great if they're accompanied by a small text file describing what makes it unique and your forum username so I can credit you properly. I will add the caption "http://www.bossarea.com" to all pictures.

No, I haven't taken the CS-1 pictures. They're good pictures but they have your username on them and I would like all pictures labeled with the site name and rather add credits on the page instead.

The pics look pretty good, but you could use some more light on the pedals. Try getting another light or two to bring up the levels.

Just increase the EV value on your digital camera either +0.5 or +1.0, it will brighten up the shadows and will clear up some detail!

I know about shutter speed and aperture but I'm afraid I have no idea what EV is. My camera is a Fuji Crappix so it probably doesn't have many possibilities anyway.
I wish I had a powerful spot light. That would probably help a lot. |

EV - Exposure Value?
I use one of those work lights with the 2 500W halogen bulbs. I put the unit to be photographed on a counter in my workshop & setup the lights in front of it. I shoot between the lights, using the light's tripod as a rest. It the item is flat, I'll pull the lights off the tripod and clamp them to the counter so that I can get more spread between the lights. I set my camera to the "tungston" setting so that the white balance is right. The Canon I have has a great feature called bracketed exposure, or something, that takes 3 pix in a row with 3 different exposures. Then I just pick the one that looks the best. The Canon also has a "macro" lens that lets me take closeups within about 6 inches. It's an older Powershot G2. I love it!

That sound a lot better than my 40W desk lamp. I tried to take some new pictures outside yesterday. It was sunny so there was lots of light but they still didn't turn out as well as I wished for. I couldn't put the pedal in direct sun light because that would generate big ugly shadows on one side of it. Out of the sun, I couldn't avoid white becoming blue. I don't have a tripod so I couldn't expose any longer than I did without losing focus.
I ended up browsing Ebay for lights. There's lots of these package solutions with a small white tent and two spot lights. Anyone tried any of these? I suspect you get what you pay for and they're available in a wide price range. |

Soft white light is always the best way to go. You should get at least 2 lights so that you can get light from both sides - it makes a huge diffference in how 3 dimensional the object will look. Ideally, a back light would be nice too, but you may not want to get that invloved....

I bought two lights. Their colour temperature is 5000k and that's perhaps a little low. At least they light up enough so I don't need to increase brightness in paintshop pro later.
It's still hard to get it right even with enough lighting. I found that a white background wasn't ideal. The background easily got over exposed while the pedal looked just perfect. I tried some other backgounds too and black is probably best. The blue background will easily reflect light on to the pedal and change its colour. The black background sucked up all light so you can't see the creases in the material anymore. Nice
Still not perfect, but I'm learning.  |

being a perfectionist I'd say that you should take care of the wrinkles on the blue fabric hehe...
It's a very nice job what you're doing in here, i'm being too picky (and I'm just joking)

Another EASY and UNCOMPLICATED trick is to empty out a WHITE dresser drawer, adjust your camera's EV (Exposure value) + 0.5 or 1.0 F-stop) to let more light into the camera and eliminate some dark shadows while keeping some nice highlights from the flash. The flash bouncing around inside the dresser drawer provides light to ALL sides of the object being photographed. Steve's setup with the lights is preferred, but if no lights are handy, then this is a neat trick.
