I have a customer who's Gilm-obsessed and has a relic on order.. looks to be very nice! It lacks the Callaham (sp?) retrofit trem, but at least includes the shortened whammy bar.

I heard the first 500 shipped from Fender (of the Relic) will have a SIGNED copy of the "Black Strat" book.

By any stretch, not a cheap guitar. Way cheaper than the Frankenstein Wastes-of-time, but 5k for a strat is.. well.. a little absurd.

GAS
In general I dont like signature models but this one is. very nice!
Ive tried a short trem arm on one of my strats and its different but nothing I liked.

I knew it was on the way but i thought it would be around the same price as a clapton/beck sig strat.....5k is a bit much i think and it's a sad because a lot of these will end up in glass cases as investments when they should be getting played.... i reckon it would be easy enough to 'customise' a strat like a good mex/jap or even an old squier to these specs......

Very tempting. I just sold a couple of my Gibsons and was thinking about using the proceeds to buy a custom shop Strat. It is a little more than I wanted to pay, but Gilmour is my favorite guitarist.

Anybody know the price range? Because if the Andy Summers Tele is $10,500, I wouldn't be surprised if they want $15,000 for this one...

verivorax reckons 5000 big ones for it......sorry guys don't mean to be bad but i played a rory gallagher custom shop strat,i even gigged it a couple of times and it's no better than my regular '89 USA standard....in fact i would go as far to say i think my standard is better.....Gilmour is easily in my top 5 favourite guitar players so i don't say this lightly but if verivorax is right.... i have to say i'm a bit dissapointed in Gilmour,he should of done what Knopfler,Clapton,Beck,Johnson... etc did and make it affordable for all the fans...even gary moore made sure his sig model les paul wasn't out of reach pricewise of the people on the street....i'm seriously starting to think that the 'custom shop' thing is a load of crap......

It wouldn't surprise me if it is...I mean unless they hand select bodies and necks for the custom shop, then I am under the impression they are pretty much just grabbing the same bodies that the other Fenders are made out of. Sort of reminds me of how I went to a restaurant one time that had a buffet, and my dad decided he didn't want the buffet, and decided to pay extra for something off the menu thinking that it would be fresh. The rest of us got the buffet, and saw that what my dad had ordered was on the buffet. After we got our food, we noticed out waitress walked out to the buffet, put the item my dad ordered that was on the buffet on a plate, then a few seconds later re-appeared with my dads order...at which point my dad said he changed his mind and wanted to do the buffet...So I guess the point of my story is, yeah it wouldn't surprise me if the more expensive "menu" guitars were just the same as the less expensive "buffet" guitars...

The price in the US is $4000 for the NOS model and $4800 for the relic model. You are definitely paying a huge premium for a name. I think this guitar has better potential for price appreciation though since Gilmour is so popular and famous for his Strats.

Big Boss Man is right on the price. I think this Gilmour strat is a better custom-level fender to get into over the 10-25k replicas they make.

Even their 2k "custom classic" models get highly figured ash bodies and nice bird's eye necks. That said, a Music Man guitar will get you nice wood and a built-to-order spec for less than 2k.. (not the BFR stuff though)
