hi guys. somebody gave me an od-1 clone to play around with. i opened it and the circuit is really an exact copy though some of the components are unbranded and looks of lower quality. i'd like to do some modding on it, and since i can't read schematics, can somebody tell me what are the clipping diodes here? tnx.

Looking on http://www.godiksennet.com/images/sch/OD1PG2.JPG, "clipping" diodes appear to be D5, D6 and D7.

In terms of polarity:
- D5 goes "one way"
- D6 in series with D7 go "the other way". It looks like there are two diodes in series in this direction to give some asymetrical clipping.

Hi leonard d rock

Any chance you can post some internal pics.

This would make it a lot easier to help you out.

But if it's really an OD-1 clone, Laurie2 is correct.

Keep the R4/C2 comps as is(100k/.0047uf) or replaced with the same values
thats a key point to the sound of the OD-1

don't know if its printed on the pcb, but all the diodes have the black strip facing down when replacing them.

that search function needs to be fixed...

hi dr. bob and christo. the clone uses an 8 pin rc4558p but the marks are printed/painted, not embossed or engraved compared to chip i found in the original od-1. most of the components are stock tho since there are no new solder marks. yes, christo, all the black strips are facing down, just like the real od-1. what i did with it is to make it more of a booster by changing one or two of the diodes with a led to make it louder. i just changed one diode, and it it sounds pretty loud now to boost another od-1, a ds-1 or the hm-2 or hopefully a tube amp.

it is one of those clones which are branded with stickers you can peel off. sounds almost like an od-1 stock but there seems to be something missing in the components to make it a real od-1. some clones are look-alike, some are sound-alike.

hi dr. bob, i will as soon as i get a digital camera. its pretty third world here in my place yet, and the only thing digital i love is my dd-3. i'm also raring to post my modest pedal board/collection plus my entry for the ugliest pedal which is my "prodigal od-1". i used the clone to boost a friend's tube amp and it sounded good.mabuhay!
