EXAR GUITAR EFFECTS SERIES 04
Brand new hand made effects on the european market.
Exar Electronix is the oldest polish guitar effects manufacturer. They started with lots of troubles in 1983 during the Martial Law in Poland, and first parts were from wherever they could find them. My firsts guitar effects were Exars series 01/02, as well as lots of young polish guitar heroes. From that time more things changed. And now with they new 04 series I am thinking about coming back to the roots. They produced really high quaulity, handmade, boutique effects at good reasonable price for the product. Lifetime warranty!!! Exar 04 series at the moment really kix ass. The modulations are so sweet...
I really like how they sounds. the modulations are very smooth and soft. There is no harm into the guitar sound, just pure high quality effect. The sound is very warm. And u can still hear if u play ur strat or lp, there is just effect added to the originl sound - its really good quality. Check the samples and tell what U think. I found them on Ebay for sth like 99pounds and i think they are good for the price.

All of them at the size of MXR Phase90 effect... so if u like lot of them in ur gear u got chance to save some space. Its a really high quality, so if u got a chance to check one do it and I am sure U will keep 4 urself, coz EXAR rocks...

And just to show U the Exar and my history. 1994, Jolna guitar, Unitra amp, Exar mt 01 metal. After sth like 1 year of playin on electric guitar... http://www.wrzuta.pl/pliki/qs7rPJFiQU/exar_mt1_metal_jantarjolana94 pls dont laugh at this rather check how u been playin at this time... cheers

Hi ksantyp
Looks like they make some really nice pedals.
Are you affiliate with EXAR in some way?
Or just an enthusiast?

As u can see i am the gear maniac making all those movies with samples. So mr Raczyk from EXAR trusted me after a few e-mails and sent me from PL to UK 8 of his new products to record and have fun. Unfortunatelly I need to give them back, and we didnt talk about any money so at this stage i am still doing it like nonprofit and independent way. Anyway my goal is to stay the sampler/tester but a free lancer coz i dont want people to think that i am connected with any brand, so treat EXAR the same way like my Boss, Marshall and other gear reviews. I am very honest person and believe if i find sth crappy in those effects i will write bout it, coz i am preparing some articles about them... i dont like some design at the moment, but they sound more then great... i am not sellin them i am just recording them for Y"ALL... So answering UR question, i am rather an enthusiastic person in that matter, not connected to much with EXAR or any other brand...
HOPE U ENJOY THE SAMPLES...!!! |

I bought the octave pedal from the new Exar series. It's a quality piece of gear. I'd recommend giving them a try.
The controls are great, you can easily tweak the mix of different signals and mess with their tones individually. The only thing I don't like about it is that the tracking isn't perfect - a problem common to most octave pedals.
I bought mine from a website in the UK because it was much cheaper than buying from Exar themselves on eBay... |

Hi ksantyp
Thanks for your honesty.
If you still have the EXAR pedals, any chance of some internal pictures for the "Pedal Internals" thread?
I do like some of the pedals you have reviewed.
There is a neat riff that I like on one of your Vids, I'll see if I can find it again & the time frame, I might then ask you what you were playing, as I'm not into Metal type riffs, but the one you played had a nice rock tone & feel to it.
Please let us know if you review any other brands as well.
Regards Dr. Bob
-- edited -- The video is: Rockers sg type Stagg g 300 gitara-online.p l 1 - with the Polish dialog. FROM: 1:49 TO 2:20 If that's TAB-ed out anywhere, I think it's a great riff And was the guitar in standard tuning?

EXAR KAMIKAZE KM 04
Polish guitar effects manufaturer ExAR ELECTRONIX is the brand with sth like 20 years tradition in building the guitar effects. They started whem in Poland in shop was only Vinegar, collecting inner tubes from farmers to have non-slip base for their first products... thats the bloody polish and polish guitar effects history. But as U all should know the things changed... EXaR changed as well and with their new series 04 their got that idea to conquer world. ITS not easy job, so they just built the best effects they could, and we got 04 series - handmade, boutique effects with lifetime warranty... soon standing on the pitch next to the MXR VooDooLab ZVEX and other hiend guitar shit. Kamikaze represent a very extreme kind of metal type distortions. The signal is built on two distortion units at the same time, and with a MIX knob u can set them as U want. The sound is massive, powerful and really modern. I need to tell I never found that type of distortion before. In my opppinion its really built for working as a riff track, so if u looking for any sound with blood and u playin riff thats for u. As u can compare all the guitars got their own character connected to the very own character of distortion. But there is clear difference beetween sound of Gibson and Fender. U cn go for that beuty cruch on Tele and high metal sound on EMG81. its very versalite effect with lot of chnces to create own sound. its very sensible for the guitar and ur fingers but a well got very own character. Series 04 its a brand new series from EXAR, they got like 20 years tradition od building effects in PL, and now wanna go worldwide, so with the products u can compare with EHX, Boss, VooDooLab they can do it. I wish them good luck and find those stomps very very good. CHECK THIS OUT MATE!!!!!!!!

Is that the one with the octave up as well as 2 sub-octaves? |

Hi ksantyp
The 04 series look to be smaller than a Boss pedal? And are they all plastic cases? Or are they powder coated metal?

Sort of.... What I didn't realise is that it isn't an octave up it's an octa-fuzz. The other 3 sounds are dry, octave down and octave 2 down. All with seperate controls. The info on the Exar site is mainly in Polish and is a little bit scant in detail when it comes to English.
It wasn't really what I was looking for at the time, but the website I bought it from (diago.co.uk) were very helpful and did offer to swap it for something else... It grew on me though and I decided to keep it.
Although it's not a bad effect, I don't relly use the octa-fuzz as I have a custom one (tychobrahe clone) which I like better.

Hey Dr. Bob,
(sorry ksantyp, I'm stealing your reply here...)
Yeah, they are a touch smaller - but still not too small to handle/tweak - the knobs are tapered enough that even people with chubby fingers (like me) can get in there. They are metal, although the footswitch itself is not (it's plastic), you only need to tap it very lightly to toggle on/off though.... The Exar Octavium is heavier than my PN-2.
A couple of pics with my PN-2 (just because it's a similar colour)...

Yikes!... How dusty is my PN-2?... time for a clean little fella... |

Hi natthu
Thanks for the pictures for size comparisons.
Any chance of some internal pics, seeing you own the pedal? I'm interested in the internal construction, & the type, & quality of the components used.
On their website it has a small pic of a worker loading a PCB, & the board looks like its Brown Phenolic - Bakelite. And it looks really small, in their hands.
Does it have a Lead Free solder sticker on it? Or some label/writing on the box stating RoHM compliance?
Did you get yours from a local vendor-evilbay-or shipped in from Overseas?
A pic of the underside would be nice as well.
Regards & thanks again Dr. Bob

Dr. Bob,
I will post the internals of the Octavium in the Internals thread... I'm just having a little difficulty getting some good pics. I'm having to get the old helping hands out.
The pedal is very well constructed and the internals are very impressive! You'll love it. It's extremely compact in there and extraordinarily neat and tidy. The Polish really know how to handmake a pedal. The board is quite small and uses all the available space.
The only compliance marking I can see is the "CE" on the outside of the housing (no RoHM).
I got this one from diago.co.uk - they have the whole range available. I bought it from them because the Exar store on evilBay is very expensive.
Cheers, Natthu
