How you predict future Boss collecting a decade from now?

Which two pedals will be the future Holy Grails on the market in 10 years?

Yes you read it correctly...you can only name two.
Without thinking about the current ones which will always be on top of the list.

I think that among recently manufactured pedals PW-2 and XT-2 which are not that hot today, but with very short production spans may perhaps be highly sought after.

I say the ps-3 and the pq-4 will probably be up there. The PQ-4 is quite rare already, and the PS-3 seems to be very popular on the used market at the moment.

I think that todays holy grails will be more holier a decade from now, very expensive. All silverscrew pedals will be very collectible.
All MIJ would be even more collectible. Those with short runs like DSD-2 and 3.
As for PW-2 and XT-2 I suppose these are going to be quite sought after, but not the holy grails. Even if they were manufactured for a short space of time I guess there was quite a lot units manufactured compared to the early models.
I also think the Micro racks will be very collectible, they are very good and rather scarce.
I suppose that collecting Boss pedals is going to accelerate a lot in the future, more people are going into it. This will mean higher prices. As I know there are just a few of us I Sweden collecting seriously right now, but more and more will come.
If you look at the 70s there was not too many people collecting vintage guitars, but now even old Japanese guitars collect big money as people cant afford pre CBS Fenders. And we men (and some women) are by nature collectors!

Only one thing is certain - the prices will go up

Of the pedals discontinued during the last 10 years I think FZ-3 and the SD-2 will be collectors items. There's many more candidates but those two keeps getting good reviews today and I predict their prices won't fall.

All true what you guys mentioned before, only thing I can conclude it that the past is selling very well whereas the future seem to fetch a lot less money these days...........................look at the rackeffects of the 80s, Goran mentioned the Micro-racks, and they still seem to be fairly cheap compared to compact pedals.

Micro-rack can do a lot more, but for some reason a chunky metal box seem to fetch more money.

I cannot help feeling that any effects pedal used to be a cheap and quick way to modify your guitarsound. Pedals in the past were not really seen as something of great quality. When people wanted quality they would rather manipulate the studio rather than using a metal box. Think about Phasing and how often it was used on recordings of the late 60s and 70s. The compact pedal just had to emulate that kind of sound, but could not[and still cannot even today] get close to that big Jetplane sound.

At some stage the pedals did get better[ more powerful--think of Chorus for example, no more big metal boxes, but small pedals with almost the same capabilies of the bigger boxes.]Then there was a moment when compact pedals faced serious competion from the rack-gear and mulitieffectors. At this stage [mid 80s] compact pedals were just seen as a quick way to get your sounds, but more and more people were trying the multi-effectors which were more powerful and bettersounding than the pedal. Or at least that is what people used to think.

----For some reason there is a bump in my post, sorry, I need to say that I created this post on different computers, had to logon and off a few times, train of thought was interupted so.............endresult is a uncoherant post, but some of you may still enjoy it somehow.................

However times have changed, and even the latest modeling-gear emulates sounds of the past rather than looking into the future, so again, I will conclude my post here with the phrase: "The Past Sells, the Future Does Not!!"

I agree with Goran -- based on their average prices already, the PN-2 and PQ-4 will likely be the "grails" of tomorrow, and the most expensive used Boss pedals from the MIT era. (I had no idea the PS-3 was already getting to be so expensive, though.) that said, the PQ-4 seems to have cooled off... when I bought mine, you couldn't get one for under $100, but the last two to sell on eBay sold for $67-$74.

among today's "not quite yet grails" from the MIJ era, I'd expect the DM-2/3 to achieve batsh!t-crazy SP-1 - esque prices within a few years....

and not to discount the FZ-3, PW-2, SD-2, XT-2, etc., but I think it would take a well-publicized 'endorsement' by some big name musician to increase the demand of those pedals, kind of like Beck's OD-1 or Herbie Hancock's CE-1 (I think that's what the Boss Book said....).

All the above indicates that the prices are going up on every pedal made in the past, and it would be wise to buy as many as possible as soon as possible (but indeed very expensive).

Remember that Boss-pedals makes a very attractive (for the eye) collection, different colors BUT with the same enclosure. Boss is the Stratocaster of pedals, maybee not the best but the classiest. A collection of MXR, Ibanez, Electro H does not have the classic apeal as a Boss collection, in MY opinion.
All this (and other factors) would make prices jump up more and more, the rarer pedals becomes more difficult to find, collectors will keep them just as you will have a very hard time find an original pre-CBS Fender these days whatever you are willing to pay.

For the price of lets say a pre-CBS 1962 Tele you can have a very impressive collection of pedals. But as time goes by this collection would be worth more and more. Ther is nothing talking against this.
So my advise is:
Those who wants the rarest pedals should buy now, even if the prices are high, in my opinion they are not ever going down. And buy as mint pedals as possible, carton and manual are very important too.
If I had a lot of money I would do it, but I know that this is not the situation for the most of us...
