I just bid on an OC-2 octave on ebay and was wondering if anyone can suggest any pedals which go particularly well with it? It's my first octave effect (excluding the octave up/down on my ME-50!) so any tips? Not that I need an excuse to get any more pedals of course... |

OC-2 works best first in the chain, a compressor before it is very good to get a consistent signal. After it feel free to experiment. Be a little careful with high gain pedals as you can get a very strong low end signal that hits the speaker. I like OC-2 a lot.

Well, according the Boss Pocket Dictionaries, to get more stable octave tones, is good to put an compressor before it, like CS-2 or 3.
I never tried this, because I haven't any octave pedal, but I think it works.

| Octave sounds cool clean but I like it even more with an overdrive/distortion or a fuzz after it. Try running any dirt pedal after it. |

| Thanks for the advice guys, but unfortunately someone outbid me at the last moment. I thought I was going to win for sure. Oh well, I will have to keep searching. |

| I use my OC-3 in poly mode most of the time as it helps track better. But definately at the head of your chain just like a shifter. |

My OC-2 sounds best right after the compressor (on!) and then to my EH Big Muff. If you dial in a little bit of the 2nd octave below and play above the 12th fret you get cool synth-like sounds |

I don't have an "octave pedal" per se, but I've recorded a couple of albums using a Boss BR-864 Digital Recorder. On the BR-864 there are many presets: many distortions, choruses, delays, etc., along with several bass simulations. I used the bass simulations, particularly the upright bass sim, on most songs. It works well but you have to be careful: occasionally the note "travels". In other words it doesn't stay on the note desired. Then you just have to go back and touch up the little "glitch". Don't know if that helps you or not. I imagine an OC-2 would probably work similarly. |

| I use the oc-2 to do bass lines on loops with my dd-6 and it works really good. |

Hi Guys
While it's not technically a Boss Octave pedal. I used to use, the Octave down mode on my Roland GR-300 Guitar Synth, I would mix in a like of the Actual guitar signal, & I would have the Resonance control almost off, to get a more realistic Bass sound.
The res off would make it really like an upright bass, & the attack of the actual guitar would create the sonic illusion that it still had a real attack.
The results were good enough to play live, when my bass player friend was too ill to play a gig, some years back.
Regards Dr. Bob |
