I love the EH/Sovtek gear (the effects are awesome) but now that I have a lot of pedals I find their size & weight rather cumbersome. I am currently rehousing two Big Muffs, a Bassballs and my beloved Small Stone into a single space rack unit. That should make them much more manageable...

Ditto. The Smallstone has been off my board for a couple of years now for that very reason: It takes up the space of two standard pedals, and that's one reason I love Boss compacts. It's gone back on now because I simply couldn't find another phaser that sounds as good. I recently replaced two ODs with the SD-2 which created a bit of space, and I had the Smallstone modded to add another couple of sounds to make it more versatile and justify the space it takes up. I did consider re-housing it, but the circuit board itself is very wide, so couldn't be put in a much smaller box anyway. I love the idea of a rackmount "multifx" made of several stompboxes, but the Sovtek pedals look pretty cool, so it's staying as it is for now.

How are you doing the switching in this rackmount, a four-way remote switch? And are you going to fix the pedal order, or have a patch-bay like the Beavis Audio fuzzlab? see below

Whoa! That fuzzlab looks crazy! I love it!

The Small Stone is definitely my favourite phaser... I have kept the enclosures of the rehoused pedals and I haven't altered the circuits (one of the Big Muffs was modded before I got it). The boards are mounted to the back of the unit the same as in the pedals via the in/out sockets - so if I want to return them to pedal form I can. It's a bit of a mess at the moment but should be pretty neat when I finish.

I will be using an external patchbay located above the EH multi unit. most of my gear runs through the patchbay already - I'll need another one soon. The Small Stone and Bassballs will be on a bypass looper on the ground and I run the two Big Muffs in parallel (left/right) through a volume pedal.

I work sheet metal for a living so it's no too hard for me to fold up some off-cuts to make housings. I have access to stainless steel, treadplate, colourbond, galvanized steel and heaps of other goodies...

I am currently working on a housing styled on the Russian EH MKII (like your Small Stone) for a Ram's head Big Muff clone I am building. The white part is plastic protecting stainless steel - the treadplate at the bottom will be either gloss red or matt black when finished. There's also a lot of flat aluminium structure on the inside of this thing. It's increadibly solid and weighs heaps...

That's awesome man, reminds me of the Pete Cornish boards with the rehoused effects etc.

This was my general set up last time i got round to taking a picture of it, however since this picture there has been the introduction of a few new pedals such as roger mayer voodoo axe and a tc electronics vintage dual distortion... Still on the look out for a good board though. Any suggestions?

Diago make excellent boards with a removable lid with a handle that forms a very durable case. I got my Gigman S/H for 50, but they're 100ish new on the website - Also, you'd need the next size up (Tourman), if not the biggest (Showman) for that many pedals. If you can find one for a reasonable price secondhand, I'd definitely recomend.

Thanks for the tip!
Well I have a confession, I don't normally use that many You can see that the dm-2 to sd-1 row is all connected to the carl martin big john, my normal set up is cry baby going into that! Or at least it was at the time, now the sd-1 has been replaced by the RM fuzz and the TC distortion. That's what I always have on the floor, it's getting to be something of a trip hazard... so all I really need is enough room for 6-7 pedals. The rest are just there to show off my Boss addiction

The Gigman would be plenty big enough, then: As you can probably judge from my photo, it will hold 10-12 standard Boss size pedals wedged in tight, or 6 plus a wah and a power supply with some room for manuva...

Yeah absolutely, my only concern would be on the flat board do you find it a little fiddly to step on the pedals to the rear of the board in a hurry? There are a couple that are tiered that look interesting like the T-Rex tone trunk (terrible name I know) but at the same they just don't look quite as solid as the Diago cases.

I don't find it a major problem, but there are two possible solutions: Line selector (e.g. LS-2/PSM-5) on the front row to select the back row, or if you don't want another pedal, a piece of plywood cut to fit under the back row - 5-8mm depth is plenty to raise the pedals sufficiently.

Is the Musicom a bypass loop? How do you like it? I've been researching them for my pedals as well. Checked out Loop Master, but want to see what else is out there. Also what are the mods on your MT-2 and BD-2? Keeley?

Here is an old pic for the new thread. It will be getting an update soon however.

Hi! I'm a new poster but a long time reader. I've seen your evolution but recently I noticed the pedalboard itself. Is it a Gator FL one? Is it powered? If not, how do you power your pedals? I'm thinking of buying a harley benton power plant with a Gator FL pedalboard.

Thanks!
