Hi Guys I would advise you to avoid couplers at any cost. They seem like a good idea and they do make your board look tidy but they put a lot of strain on on the input and output jacks of your pedals. It only takes 1 pedal to be loose and over a period of time you will find that it will loosen and/or bend the sockets or even break them from the pcb in your pedals creating an intermittent open or short circuit. the smallest amount of movement on 1 pedal in a chain will affect all the other pedals as well. I always advise people to make their own as it is the best way to insure that all the pedals can sit comfortably on your board with no stress or strain on the connectors. George L cables are perfect for this if you are not to confident with a soldering iron and are just as neat as anything out there. As for sound, I would say that it makes no difference what so ever but if you do think it makes a difference then you have to decide whether you do actually want a sound or a lot of pops and bangs, and you know its going to let you down just when you need it least. As they say, well It's a lot louder than fxxx all and at least you can join in.

....+1.......I think we all have been there at least once..frantically looking for the culprit in the middle of a gig.......what i do in that situation is just straight into the amp and turn up the gain a bit until the end of the song or the break in the set.......

There isn't anything worse than that. Thanks for all of the advice guys!
