Sadly, I have learned today of Ike Turners passing. Although he lived a tumultuous life he was truly one the the great bluesmen of our time.

True, he had his bad times, but on the day of someones death it's far more fitting to honour a persons accomplishments in life, and not the transgressions for which they were already punished when they were alive. I sincerely hope, exodia333, that no one will able to make any disparaging statements when your time comes.

ditto bro'..while i don't agree with violence against anybody be very careful with believing only one side of any story exodia 333....hollywood at the end of the day wants to put rear ends on seats the same as the music business and a bit of scandal in anyones life story(tina's book and the film) will do just that...personally i usually find that the truth is somewhere in the middle...i've read accounts by black musicians saying how hard it was back then to get airplay..b.b king, buddy guy, little richard..etc and it must of been very frustrating seeing the stones, cream, elvis etc... go to the top of the charts with the music they had been playing all their life...ike turner seemed to be a little bitter about it but in fairness to elvis and the others they always aknowledged where the music came from and the stones brought ike and tina on the road with them.....wasn't it ike who had to ask jagger to let his backing singers out of the bed to do a show....... R.I.P ike...rock n roll......

In 1951 Ike turner was lead guitar on the recording "Rocket 88" with Jackie Brentson. This recording is considered by most to be the first Rock and Roll record.

Actually Ike played piano on that cut, and he played it very well. Willie Kizart played lead guitar.

Ike was a gigant, he played piano or guitar on a lot of 50s classic blues tracks. He was a talent scout and found many of the, later, big bluesmen.
Roumor says he played lead on a lot of Otis Rushs Cobra sides.
