i followed the schematic on this site http://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3130 for the diezel MT-2 mod, i used a tantalum 1uf capacitor, everything else clay, and a little red LED, it sounds ok but it sometimes farts when i play 5th or 4th string and it has taken away a lot of the distortion and the volume Any suggestions? |

Double check the polarities of both the tantalum and LED.
I did something similar and I noticed that it was over-saturating with DIST full. I had to increase R41 to 4.7k to reduce the pre-distortion gain. |

Hi lfrz93 and welcome!! Yep, it is probably polarity. If the polarity is OK, post a few pics of the front and back of the board and we'll have a look.

Electrolytic and tantalum capacitors, and LEDs typically have polarity.
On the body of tantalum capacitors there is a "+" symbol to show the positive lead.
Electrolytics have a "-" symbol/stripe to show the negative lead.
On LEDs the positive lead is longer than the negative. If you have installed the LED, here is a illustration to help you identify if the LED is installed correctly:

Diodes also have polarity.
However, not all electronic components have polarity, e.g. resistors or inductor. |

| ahhhhhhhh, the diode i installed correctly, the board indicated l>l and i did so with the diode, but how do i know for the led? its supposed to be l<l |

The polarity of the LED is:
|>| +>-
The longer lead is the positive electrode (anode). |

aight back, sorry for ttaking so long lol i started jamming with the pedal, its works awesome, it doesnt have as much distortion as the stock version but it is perfect for me right now i have the distortion at 3 o clock, level 1 o clock, highs 3 o clock, lows 2 4 o clock, mid 8 i clock, and mid freq at 10 o clock, it sounds amazing, great tone, you can actually hear what you are playing, high thrashy gain with some reverb and voilah, thanks everyone! im so happy with the pedal right now!
edit: still wondering if i put the tantalum 1uf capacitor in the right place or order, or it doesnt matter? |

| Of course it matters, if you use it with the wrong polarity it sounds very fizzy. |

| ahhh i thought capacitors didnt matter, the board doesnt indicate which way i should put it though, how do i know? |

It matters for bipolar electrolytics and tantalums. There should be an indication (+) of the polarity on the pcb similar to the picture:

| ok back, nope it doesnt have anything like that, checked all around and nothing, i looks like this -l l- and on top of that the two holes for the capacitor, it sounds good as hell and it stopped making farts and fuzzing so i think its good |
