Sir, i decided to mod my mt2 today, unfortunately it was unsuccessful because of some problems occured... there was a problem at C36 when we replaced it with .1uF.... i cant hear my guitar, but when i'm touching the leads of c36, my guitar sounds but when i'm not playing while holding the c36, there is a an "odd" sound like tweeting(like whistling) which is annoying... i dont know the problem so i decided to assemble again my mt2 in its original components... but the problem dididn't removed... we have putted a jumper on one of the leads of c36 to other line which is in series on the capacitor...
the reason for putting a jumper is because, the conductor on the lane of c36 was chipped out due to excessive heat when soldering...
what do you think is the problem? anyone can help me? thank you... i'll be waiting.... |

Have you got an oscilloscope? As the problem didn't go away when you restored the original component, it could be anywhere? Maybe a component got pushed on to another or maybe a wire has come loose somewhere. With a scope you can go through the signal path and determine where the whistle sound originates. |

Okay, there's a couple thing that could be suspect here. First, are you using a low wattage soldering iron? This matters tremendously. I would not use one over 25 watts. Maybe 30, but that's pretty hot. If it's too hot (or on the component for too long) you probably fried the capicator. The new one, the old, or even both. This happened to my brother. He was using a 50 watt iron and fried a new and original resistor while modding. He could hear me from two miles away saying, "I told you so..."
Second, the PCB path that was "chipped out" is probably still not making a good connection for you. Get a piece of insulated, stranded wire, and solder each leg of your capacitor to the next component in line on each side (resistor, diode, pot, whatever.)
Trying to solder a jumper to the actual path rarely works unless the trace is REALLY exposed. You need to go point-to-point if you burn up or break a trace. The copper traces on the PCB may have been burned up, and could be invisible to the naked eye.
Get your soldering iron checked out first, or all of this will be fruitless. Add it up: excessive heat, broken traces, tweeting (burned out) capacitor.
Good luck! |

| sir if the capacitors were burned out..example the c36, c25, c42... can i replace that with a mylar capacitor with the same value as the stock value of my mt2? tnx sir for giving those thoughts... |

| The pedal stops sqealing if he touches the legs of C36. Sounds a bit like a grounding issue. He's grounding it with his body when he touches the capacitor. |

| Yes, grounding is suspect as well, but if the dielectric on the capacitor has been damaged this sound could occur as well. I see where you're going w/ this bossarea, it could very well be a broken ground. |

sir... i have replaced the capacitors with new ones.. and still i can hear squeeling... one of the other forum told me that its normal if it squeels when you are touching the components, but its abnormal if it squeels without touching the components...
my first step is to buy a electra contact cleaner and a toothbrush to remove the solder flux on the specific surface where capacitor should be connected
what will be your thoughts sir? |
