Hello everyone...
I have purchased a few pedals recently (BD2 OD3 CS3) and i have to say that i am very impressed with the quality of Boss products. My previous experience with 'effects pedals' were budget offerings from ZOOM, KORG etc. I have never been satisfied with the distortions on these types of 'all in one pedals'. When I stumbled upon this website I was a bit daunted by the huge product choice that BOSS offer.
This forum has helped me narrow down my pedal choice and has been a great source of information... so thanks guys
I had been struggling with my early 90's Marshall Shredmaster pedal, amp distortion etc to find a good metal/lead tone and have never found what i was after.. until today.
I tried and bought a MT2 pedal... wow what a pedal. Yes it takes a bit of time to find the sound you are looking for, but this thing (so far only used at bedroom levels) really does rock!. This is a 80's shredding pedal, but the ability to add mids mean that you can get a great rhythm AND lead sound. The copious amounts of compression on offer means that dynamics in lead playing are missing (unlike the BD2) but what sustain! (with the tone control on my guitar cut i really can get a Satriani lead tone out of my Vintage 30 speaker!! )
I dont know why it has taken me this long to buy the MT2... but I am very glad that i have, definately the best pedal I have in my collection.
(PS... I tried the DS1 and MD2 as well today. To me the DS1 seemed very dry and sterile, but would have been good for crunchy rhythm (prefer my BD2 though) and the MD2....? 'Nu Skool' metal as advertised by BOSS... not IMHO. More like a woolly overdiven DS1. I was very dissapointed by the MD2.
(PPS... bOught the CE5 as well today, added after the MT2 = Mid eighties Van Halen (5150/OU812), played clean with the CS3... instant Marillion!)
Just the DD6 and the BF3 and I am done! (but that looping compact looks fun as well!! )
Thnaks for the advice everyone

Good work, Boss products really are a benchmark for quality, it's a shame there aren't really many effects pedal companies like them. Would you be interested in selling your Shredmaster? I've been after one for a while and missed out several over the years. Email me at tomwesty@gmail.com if you're interested? Thanks

That's what you think Once you started buying them, you can't stop. Boss pedals are worse than drugs. |

Yes, I agree with Bossarea - I started off with a CE-2 and a DS-1, 65 Boss Pedals later and I'm still going
I think we might have to set up a Boss rehab centre soon |

| Haha, do you get withdrawal if you don't buy a new one for a few weeks. I must admit I would buy more if I could afford to, I often find myself on ebay thinking 'I don't raelly want that...but the price, I won't find one at this price again'. |

tomwest: Have you used a Shredmaster before?
If not, I think you are setting yourself up for a disappointment. I have another older thread here (http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1127) in which I discuss my disappointment with it. Also the common misconception that Kevin Shields used one, which he did not. |

| I've never used one, but I have read your thread, and yeah I know Kevin Shields didn't use one, however I dunno something draws me to one, I wouldn't ever pay over about 45 for one, maybe I should try one out or hunt some samples really, though noone I know has one, and I haven't ever found any samples. |

The HM-2 is the best pedal i've ever played with for My Bloody Valentine style distortion, do you have anything else to reccomend? (distortion wise)

finding your tone is the best feeling ever. i love tunring on my amp and gear and having it there. just playing any riff and having it sound EXACTLY like you want it to is a beautiful thing. its also great finding tones by mixing pedals that no one would ever think of trying. as Tom Morello would say, "this can lead to a lot of happy accidents."
i agree that pedals, Boss espeically, are comparable to drugs. i always go on kicks though. i will buy 5 in a week, and then go pedal sober for a month. until i get another fix of 3 more. but the difference is, after my binge, i still have the pedals to show for it...and no track marks. |

Problem? --- What Problem?
I don't have a Boss problem, I just switch to Ibanez pedals! If you feel your getting an Ibanez pedal addiction, SIMPLE... then switch back to Boss pedals....
SEE? NO PROBLEM? |
