on a random note, I once owned Shin-Ei Siren wah, designed for surf rockers. it was an odd pedal . . . picked it up at a garage sale.

This is a coincidence, I just happened to be thinking about all the pedals I have ever owned on the day this thread appeared, it's taken me until now to get around to replying though. Those I wish I had never parted with marked curious to hear how they would sound to me now marked C. In very approximate order of purchase

late 70s...
Kimbara Fuzz
Electro Harmonix treble booster
Dharma Sound phaser C
Coloursound wah C
WEM Copycat (borrowed)

Early 80s...
Boss OD-1
Micro phaser - brand unknown
MXR Phase 90
MXR Phase 100
Electro Harmonix Mem Man C
Korg volume pedal
Boss FA-1 pre amp
Boss CS-1
MXR Distortion II - big mains powered job C
Arion stereo chorus
Roland Space Echo
Boss BF-2
Boss OC-2

Actually got rid of ALL my stomp boxes around 85 and shifted to channel switching and rack effects - just chorus and delay. The one exception was my OD-1 which I kept 'just in case' until about 2007 and sold because I didn't think I would ever use it again and didn't like the lack of low end

00s

Marshall Drivemaster
Boss SD-1
Boss DS-1
Bodd OD-2 C
Boss PW-10

Currently have

Boss OD-3 - not sure I will ever use again
Boss BD-2 - reserve
Award Session JD-2 - handy for demos but probably wont use again
Cry Baby - occasional use
Boss volume pedal - ditto

In use...

Boss CS-3
Boss PH-1
Blackstar HT-Drive
Boss CE-5
Boss TR-2
Boss DD-3
Boss TU-3

Jonesing for...

DM-2

These are the BOSS compact pedals I've owned and sold over the past 15 years. I've also spent some serious time with a few others that belonged to my dad.

BD-2 - My first overdrive pedal. i enjoyed it greatly, but found I was never using it and sold it to a friend (along with the CEB-3 and Keeley DS-1)

BF-2 - Bought it at Music-Go-Round and had fun for a while, rarely used after I quit the prog-rock band. Sold it online.

BF-2 - Got this one in a pawn shop mega-buy (10 pedals and two cases). I held on to it for a few years before selling it online also.

CE-3 - Pawn shop mega-buy again. Had a pair, sold one.

CEB-3 - My very first pedal (of my own-I played my dad's before this). Rendered obsolete for guitar with the purchase of my JC-120H and I wasn't a fan of chorus on bass for a few years. Sold it to a friend (with the BD-2 and Keeley DS-1).

CS-2 - Pawn shop mega-buy. Didn't care for it. Sold it online.

DD-2 - Pawn shop mega-buy. Preferred my DD-6. Traded it for a SoulSonic Four Banger boost and SoulKitchen Classic 188 fuzz.

DD-5 - Bought at a pawn shop, used for years. Replaced by a DD-6.

DS-1 - $20 brand new at a Sam Ash sale. Sold it to a student for the same money a few years later.
BOSS/Keeley DS-1 - Bought new from RK. I much prefer the non-modded version. Sold it to a friend (along with the CEB-3 and BD-2)

HM-2 - First played on my dad's, found mine at Music-Go-Round. ixed feelings overall, gave it to a friend (not sure if she still has it).

MT-2 - Don't remember where it came from, I sold it to a student. I don't need that kind of gain more than twice a year and can live without it.

OD-1 - Pawn shop mega-buy. Didn't bond with it until the day I packed it for shipping. It didn't like my amps, loved my dad's Pro Reverb. What I hoped to use it for is currently covered by a Durham Mucho Boosto.

PSM-5 - Pawn shop mega-buy. On my dad's second board.

TU-2 - replaced with a Peterson StroboStomp, I sold this one to a student last week.

I listed the Boss pedals I've sold before, but here's the non-Boss stuff:

Biyang FZ-7, FL-8 & AD-7
- Fuzz was ok but not as good as a Big Muff, The flanger and delay were both ok and did this awesome self oscillation when set to extreme settings, fun for mucking around but that's all.

Exar OC-04 Octavium
- great pedal but I originally bought it because I couldn't get my hands on a Pearl Octaver, when I got my Pearl I sold the Exar.

Beta Aivin CH-100, FL-100 - clones of Boss CH-1 and BF-2, just wanted to try them out. They were pretty good for cheap knock offs but not really my thing.

Behringer CC300, TP300, UV300, SM200, NR100 - clones of Boss DC-2, PN-2, VB-2, SG-1, NS-2. Effects wise these are all good clones but the build quality was plastic rubbish. I really just wanted to try some of those legendary Boss pedals without having to fork out a large pile of cash. I currently have a real DC-2, 4x PN-2s and 2x NS-2s...

Korg Mini-KP - not really a guitar pedal but great fun to play with. I wanted to try it because Matt Bellamy has a guitar with one built in (a proper Kaoss pad not the mini). It wasn't really for me though...

Pearl DS-06, CO-04 & OC-07 - Awesome pedals from the 80s. The Distortion had a weird parametric EQ built in, most of the tones were pretty horrid though. The compressor is really nice but I have a Keeley C4 now, which is a bit more versatile for bass and guitar. I was really reluctant to let the Octaver go, it's such a great pedal, however, I never used it because I have a POG2.

MXR CSP-001, M-103 Blue Box The CSP-001 is basically a phase-90 in a CryBaby housing so you can control rate with your foot. I didn't really like it. I prefer more subtle phasing like the Smallstone. The blue box is a cool octave fuzz, but I have a Tychobrahe Octavium clone which I like better.

BBE Soul Vibe, Somic Maximizer - The soul vibe is a great simple leslie simulator, I just never found a use for it and now I have an Eventide ModFactor for the odd occasions when I might use that sort of modulation. The Maximizer is a bit like an EH-2 I guess, it just never really got integrated into my set up

Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Nano, Russian Big Muff (MKIII), POG & Germanium OD - I prefer the russian Smallstone over the nano. I have several other versions of the Russian Big Muff which I think are better than the current (MKIII) version. I bought the POG for $80 but already had my POG2 which I like better so I ended up selling it on eBay - it sold for $270!! Crazy. The Germanium OD is pretty cool but I just never really used it.

Moog MF-101 & MF-102
- great pedals but they take up far too much space considering I almost never used them. I currently have a MIDI-MuRF which I'm keeping. Moog really is the king of analogue effects.

Rocktron Banshee Talkbox - I went through a bit of a Peter Frampton phase... I got over that though and don't really like singing while playing guitar so much.

Devi Ever US Fuzz
- Excellent Fuzz, just not my thing. I have settled on the EHX Russian Big Muff (MKII) as my favourite fuzz, mainly because it sounds great with bass guitar.

Earthquaker Tone Reaper - another boutique Fuzz. Also awesome, I just like the Big Muff more.

I've probably missed a few but that's most of them...

If I can post no Boss pedals then I have two:

- Rocktron Hypnotic Flange: I couldn't stand the hypnotic mode, plus the chickenhead knobs kept on moving and moving, fucking up my settings all the time. Lent by a friend to me, so I hand it back to him.

- Behringer UT100 Ultra Tremolo: sucked tone, awful looks, plastic case, volume drop... Lent by the same friend, but I keep it on a bookshelve.

I just sold mine for 10 euros, half my money back

I'm much happier with the PN-2, good sounding pedals can be inspiring, I kept putting the UT-100 back in the closet.

Ah! No wonder why you haven't worked too much with tremolo yet!

You're actually right, I love the effect but the Behringer made me put it back in the closet cause it sounded so bad.
I'm pretty sure the PN-2 will last a lot longer
I guess there's a lesson to learn for all of us:

"If you're serious about a certain sound, don't go cheap, buy Boss!"

That would make a nice slogan.

The I guess that's why I don't fancy the tremolo effect right now: bad sound experience, but my friend owns a TR-2 and it really sounds good! If only it had tap-tempo. PN-2 is closer having that bulb flashing with the tempo...

Yes, but that can be very annoying too, cause it keeps blinking even in bypass mode.
