I guess it's a bit hard to explain. A sound sample would probably explain it better. Modezero got some that you can check out.
The geek speek for what it does is that it applies reverse phase modulation with a high and a low frequency clock together. Nah, that didn't tell me how it sounds either  |

Use it in stereo. The best spatializing effect.. very three DIMENSIONal. Andy Summers from the Police used the rack dimension effect of which the DC-2 is a (clone or replica?).
Think chorus without all the pitch variations/detuning. |

| It definitely needs to be used in stereo to be fully appreciated. It is a subtle chorus with no heavy modulation, vibrato, or metallic chorus sound. Works well with clean or distorted tones. One of my favorite Boss pedals ever. I liked it so much I bought two of them! |

The only difference functionally between the two is that the rack dimension effect could have more than 1 of the 4 push buttons pressed down at the same time for even more variations in the sound.
