Can't help you with the mod i'm afraid but there are some people over in the tech area that are extremly handy and knowledgable when it comes to mods on pedals... some reports of the behringer clone of the VB-2 say it's not bad and pretty cheap to buy also i think dan-electro do something similar as well that is prety good...nice little collection..i have a CE-2 and a TR-2 that i use all the time on my pedalboard....
Maybe this will help, it's for a CE-2 but it may work for a CE-3 since they're almost identical in circuitry. The rest of Erik's site is worth checking out too, lots of cool stuff.
