Hi guys,

I am new here in bossarea and I am from the Philippines. I had recently bought an ML-2 and tried it at home with my Ibanez 7 string RG7321, AMP = Ibanez TBX65r
The purpose of the testing is to perceived what the ML-2 can do and compare it with my MT-2. The result is, well they are very different, and I like ML-2 more than my MT-2 sonically.

But here is the thing, I test the ML-2 between my 2 boss Eqs (GE-7 and GEB-7). First, this is the path;

guitar>GEB-7>ML-2>GE-7>amp

Here are my findings, when ml-2 is on and then I turned on the GE-7 after it, of course I heard what I had expected with my settings in the GE-7 something like a smile setting (boosting). But when I turn on the GEB-7 (all 3 pedals now on) i heard no difference sonically, also the volume didn't change even though I boosted the mids and bass in the GEB-7. Hmmm, I tried to boost the level slider of the GEB-7 but noticed only a slight boost in volume. I also tried to boost all frequencies in the GEB-7 still no changed in the sound even the volume doesnt change. I tried turning off the GE-7 leaving ML-2 and GEB-7 on, still no changes in the sound whatever I do with the GEB-7. Now I tried to turn off all 3 pedals, so my signal should be a clean one then tested the 2 equalizers. This time, turning on the ge-7 is fine, and then turning on geb-7 is fine too!!! i notice a very big difference in the sound turning the turning on/off the two equalizers depending on my settings with them with the ML-2 between them still turned off. I tried to turn on the ML-2 again and did another round of testing above but still the problem exist again.

I think there is something wrong so I had interchanged the 2 equalizers, this time;

guitar>GE-7>ML-2>GEB-7>amp, now the problem with the GEB-7 above also happened in the GE-7!!! I suspect the ML-2 is defective.

I tried to place the 2 Eqs after the ML-2 but the 2 Eqs worked fine.

I tried the ML-2 alone but it is working fine. Guitar>ML-2>Amp. Unfortunately, I never tried lowering or raising the volume in my guitar. I suspect that the ML-2 is not accepting any volume or frequency changes before it. But that is very odd!!!

I don't have the luxury time to isolate the issue further since my wife that time already arrived. .

I already don't have the time to retest it again due to circumstantial reasons but I did decide to return the ML-2 back 2 days after. And I am amaze the same problem persist when I showed to them. This time we are using the stores two GEB-7 that they have in stock. The problem persists to whatever GEB-7 in front of the ML-2.

If I may I really want everybodys opinion on this. Im also thinking that "would equalizers in front of a distortion in general has a small - subtle effect in the sound".

Can anybody who has any boss Eq test simulate that too (placing any eq in front of the ML-2)? I wonder what would be the results.

I still dont have the time to retest using my MT-2 maybe tonight and I will update my post here. I hope that will contradicts the statement in red.

Thanks everybody!!!

Hi Arpeggios_0_Hell10

Welcome to the forum from Australia.

Sadly I don't own an ML-2, ot the GE7B,
so you might have to be patient & wait until one of the other members makes a comment.

hey dude welcome to the forum-

"would equalizers in front of a distortion in general has a small - subtle effect in the sound".

Yes I think so- will have little or no effect in front-

Also using 2 pedals that are the effectively the same will have little effect, you can only boost the frequencies so much.....

Plus both the ML-2 and the MT-2 have built in equalizers also- you are trying to use 3 equalizers in a row effectively, 1 of those will certainly have little or no effect-

Lose one of the equalizers I reckon, and put the other one after the distortion and you should be in business ;)

Hi All,

Thank you for all the welcome!!! Well, I tried the MT-2 with the same setup and the same thing happens. So I think that concludes that the ML-2 is not defective. # 2, the statement above in red is a fact and true. I just couldn't believe that I didn't realize that using the MT-2 for a very long time, .

Now I will just use the GEB-7 after my distortions and use the GE-7 later in the chain, maybe last before my RC-2. Here are the pedals currently in my PB1000; (not in particular order)

AW-3
CS-3
GE-7
MT-2
DS-1
BD-2
CE-5
DD-3
Behringer RV600 - reverb machine
NS-2
LS-2
GEB-7
RC-2

The fact that I did returned the ML-2 still haunts me. I'm planning to Mod my MT-2 with the Monte allums tri gain sustainiac so if I am not happy with that mod I might return to buying again the ML-2 plus I have no more room in my PB1000 board or I can just do some tricks with it to house all 13 pedals.

Thanks!Thanks!Thanks!
