I have a good RV-3 and I opened it because I was curious to see if I could apply the mod to have it in the "on" state when powered using an AC adaptor.
When I take a look at the PCB I saw a printing with the ASSY number but it was a two lines printing like this:
PS-3 ASSY 70238867 00 RV-3 ASSY 70342278 00
befor each line there is a little box with a black flag on the RV-3 line. This make me think that the same PCB can be used both for the RV-3 and the PS-3 changing some components. Someone knows if there is a mod to obtain a PS-3 or what components should be replaced? I tried to find the circuit diagram for this two pedals without luck.
You're right. The 2 pedals are very similar. The RV-3 circuit diagram has "PS-3, RV-3 Circuit Diagram" printed on it. I copied it up here: http://www.bossarea.com/bossRV3.jpg
Several of the newer digital pedals share the same pcb layout, and as Lukas noted this is indicated on the main pcb. The main signal path (input/output buffers, bypass system etc) remains the same for both pedals, and the main difference between them is which digital processing circuit is used. Modding one of them into the other could - technically - be as simple as replacing the main DSP chip. Of course, there can be other differences as well - for instance, the "mode" knob might be a different type (with more positions) - but in theory they share most stuff except the DSP circuits.
I removed that link. I know that Roland doesn't like the schematics floating around on the web and has told off a few other websites so I removed it before they tell me to.
May RV-3 turn to PS-3?
