I just wanted to state my extreme disappoint with this effects unit. It is highly overrated and it is near unusable without another distortion or overdrive pedal in combination with it. I also wanted to set straight the rumors about My Bloody Valentine using this pedal are entirely untrue, Kevin Shields used Two old MK1 Marshall Guv'Nor pedals says his guitar tech. I will see if I can post some links to some sound clips soon, but for the average $150+ price tag these things are going for it's a waste of money.
Also I don't know if any of you use or have used the old Marshall Guv'Nor pedal, but I find that to be much more versatile and interesting, and it even has it's own effects loop built into it! how cool is that. Joey Santiago from the Pixies used one of these in combination with a Boss OS-2, and those two just seem to belong together.
Anyway I just wanted to mention it, as I felt I've wasted a good amount of money that could've been better spent on a DC-2, or a DC-3, or toward a DM-2 or something.
Thanks for your time.

I have the old Guv'nor, bought mine right before the silver ones came out. Nice unit, usable tones. The loop feature is cool.
Mine was made in Korea, btw. |

I had been waiting to find this quote, it was what I was referencing from his guitar tech.
Kevin never used a Shredmaster pedal (he did, however, use 2 Marshall Guv'nor pedals during the Isn't Anyting live shows). (guitargeek.com falsely credits the use of a Shredmaster during the Loveless tours.)
For Loveless live shows he used - Digitech Whammy WH-1, Boss EH-2, Boss PQ-4, 2 x Boss GE-7, Boss Tw-1 Touch Wah, Pro-Co Turbo Rat, Roger Mayer Axis & Mongoose, Marshall Guv'nor, Jim Dunlop Rotovibe, Boss PN-2 Tremolo/Pan, Digitech PDS-8000 (the old one the Echo-Plus 8 Second Delay/Sampler not the new JamMan PDS8000), ADA Pre-amp, Alesis MidiVerb 2, Yamaha SPX-90 x 2 and 3 x Marshall JCM800's (only 2 amps were actually running) JCM's valved with EL34's and ECC83's (including phase split). - I may have missed out one or two pedals there....it has been a few years..!!!
The clever part is what he adds to the internal wiring to the guitars and the reasoning behind using certain guitars for certain songs.
Hope that helps some of you. |

I've got a Shredmaster and I quite like it actually. You can get some very cool and quite over the top sounds with it. If rumours are true - Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead used one and I really admire him as a guitarist so if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me
Must admit though that it's not the sort of pedal I'd use day to day. It's a bit too extreme for the sort of things I play regularly. |

| yeah as far I recall, Jonny Greenwood (of Radiohead) uses it in Combination with a Boss SD-1 at the same time. that was what my original comment about mixing it with another overdrive/distortion pedal. Also it is mentionable that he is known to sometime use his amp's overdrive in conjunction with one or both of those 2 pedals. Don't ask me which amp though (the Vox or the Fender) because I don't pay a ton of attention to that. |

| I have had three shredmasters they sound great just not what I was looking for. I know this is off topic but see for yourselves what Johnny(or Thom, Ed, Collin, Phill) are playing with http://www.sigur-ros.it/franz/RHG/index.html |

| Thanks, but I have found that website to be slow, and mostly outdated. Recent concert pics seem to be the best way to keep up with what they are using (note: Jonny is currently using an Electro-Harmonix Poly Chorus). But alas I am not a crazy Radiohead fan, and am not that worried about it. I like the band, but I'm not one of those nutjobs that goes out and gets every piece of gear they think Jonny might have used. Although there are plenty of those nutjobs out there, same for Incubus too. Just read some of those HC Reviews where people post their rigs it's ridiculous. I mean I see nothing wrong with admiring someone but go out and try to find your own tone. Only one piece of gear I own is because someone I admire uses it and that's my rackmount Yamaha SPX-90 in honor of Kevin Shields. But the reason it sticks around is because no other piece of gear I have will do a Reverse Reverb. And many of the other settings on it are rather interesting. |

I agree with Dingus...Find your own sound...Though having a few in honor of your heroes is fine...If I had any money I think I'd do that too...lol...I read somewhere that Kevin Shields used a Fender Blender but after getting one I doubt it and that wasn't the reason I got it anyway so oh well...Though a Turbo Rat would be nice...
peace. |
