Check out some of the blackstar stuff..it shold be fairly easy to source in the U.K.....getting some great reviews....

I'd heavily reccomend you explore the wanderful world of the SD-2. It's one of my favourite pedals. In my set up it's going into an Epiphone Valve Junior stock amp.
I'd also like to point you in the direction of the DF-2.

I've heard good things about the Digitech Bad Monkey, but have never experienced one myself.

I also think you're eyeing up the same MIJ DS-2 as myself on evilbay! Ha ha!

I agree with DasBeef the dual overdrive is what you want... distortion with a lot of sustain.. heavy... cleans... and no metallic... catches a SD-2

Yes on the SD2 so far out of all the straight Boss dist od style pedals I have played it's my fave
