I just picked up a CS-1 (silver screw, black switch, LED on version) and noticed that like some others here, mine suffers from a significant volume drop after the initial attack of each note. Think of the intro to Chili Pepper's Under the Bridge, but WAY more so. This is the case even with the compress set to minimal levels. My recollection of these things years ago was that this is a characteristic. Does anyone have one here (stock) that doesn't do this, and/or is there anything I can do to mine to tame this? As it is it is virtually unuseable. Shock Horror, but I think my CS-3 from the early 90's was more functional than this ...

Yes, mine doesn't.

I've also got a silver screw but momentary LED. Mine does not suffer from a volume drop however.

No idea why they're different though (to your CS-1) but the CS-1s are different from CS-2s or CS-3s.

This Topic Here http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1833

Discusses a mod for the CS-1's Volume Drop, until FRANZONI bogarted it with his damn active pickup talk again.

For what it is worth though, I took my CS-1 (black screw) apart and did not find any resistor connected to the top lug of the level control. If I did I surely would have modded the pedal, because I hate the volume drop as well.

MAYBE we can get stratman to take a nice picture of the inside of his CS-1 and compare it to both of ours and see if we can't figure out the winning combination.

Sure! Will do as soon as I can - still waiting on my digital camera to come back from warranty service

My phone's camera is terrible and would not capture enough detail. I'm expecting the camera in about 8-10 days (so they tell me!) I've put a reminder in my calendar so I don't forget...

Cheers guys...

i just got my CS-1 in today. its Silver Screw, black switch, stamped #10200. it dropped volume only sometimes but at wierd times. like a second after picking and then kinda warbles the note which i find strange. and there is an overall volume drop when its turned on. even with level maxed.

i like to give pedals a week or two in the chain before making assumptions, but as it stands now, im not too impressed with it
