I just wonder as I dont think this is a very usable pedal, BUT does anybody have a different opinion? I have one of these and dont use it very often, just for collecting. |

I agree with you. It wasn't very popular when it first came out due to the same reason. It is one of the hardest pedals to find and I think the prices are pushed up because of collectors like us fighting over the few that exists. |

| I actually finally just found one at a "decent" price and it will hopefully arrive tomorrow. Same deal here. I only bought it as a collector and I highly doubt I'll ever use it outside of a rehearsal room. I remember seeing it at the local music shop where I used to live for years and years. It just sat there collecting dust. I'm curious about how many of them were actually made, because it seems to be SO hard to find. |

| I've seen three of them on eBay in the past 3-4 months and they are normally selling for $300 and up. One with the box went for over $500! |

High prices for a "bad" pedal... I gave about $120 for mine, it has a lot of dings....
How many on this forum do have SP-1, Bossarea and Boss freak have as we know? |

I saw the one with box and manual. I think the seller sold 3 pedals simulataneously. SP-1, VB-2 and... was it a SG-1? The 3 of them fetched well over $1000. It's about 3-4 months ago.
I had to give 130 for mine. That converts to about $250 but it's still reasonable compared to what they usually go for over here. No box though. |

I figure that all the pedals made in the first year are way out of my price range. but the guy that owns the music store that i get alot of my junk from knows that i'm looking for older boss pedals and he might give me some deals. I hope. |

I'm not overly familiar with the native music scene in Japan, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Mr. X in The Boss Book could possibly be Tak Matsumoto of B'z. That's a complete guess, because that picture is tiny, I'm not familiar with what Matsumoto looked like when he was younger, & I'm not familiar with his guitar (which may give it away to the Japan readers). But, besides Loudness' Akira Takasaki, Tak Matsumoto is probably Japan's biggest guitar hero & the B'z is their all-time biggest band I believe. I'm only familiar with his newer work, like his release here in the States on Vai's Favored Nations.
As for the SP-1, isn't it a lot like a one-band parametric eq meets a variable cocked wah sound, sort of like an envelope filter with no up/down sweep or pick attack sensitivity. I know you can get all those cocked wah & funk sounds really nicely using the FT-2 in manual mode with no expression pedal attached. Just pick the Q & adjust the freq & sens & you've got fixed wah-like sounds, but a little funkier. No automatic sweep up/down, but you still have the sensitivity. That's how I like to use it anyway. More subtle, but I'm of the "less is more" mentality when using effects: I use a LOT of fx, but don't over-use each of them individually, just letting each one make up a subtle component of overall tone. |
